Syntakt + Digitakt - Saving Projects together

Hi everyone,

Another noob here, so sorry if this question sounds dumb.

I have a Digitakt and now bought a Syntakt, connected as:
ST Midi Out - DT Midi In
DT Audio Out - ST Audio In

When making a project on ST and inserting samples from the DT, then I need to save the same project on both devices? Being ST the center of the workflow, will it keep the parameters received from the DT on the ST project, or will I need to save both and then launch both projects, one in each machine?

Thanks for your help.

Make a project on each device with the same name whenever you make a new project. When you change pattern on your ‘‘control’’ device, the pattern will change to the same pattern on the second device, so sync your patterns between them.

Just a note on this - you don’t need the projects to have the same name for the patterns to stay in sync. The pattern change thing - that’s just something the Elektron boxes do. They send MIDI ‘program change’ messages when you change patterns and most Elektron boxes will automatically pick these up

Yes, I should have clarified that I was talking about ‘best practice’ rather than an absolute requirement. It just makes things much easier to manage when you know you just need to load up matching projects for future sessions.

Oh, great. So this way I will only need to do this once (and the normal saves) and it will switch automatically whenever I switch from projects on the control device.

Thanks a lot.

Got it. Thanks a lot.

It won’t sync project switches between devices - if that’s what you’re saying
i.e. when you load ‘project A’ on the ST, then ‘project A’ also loads on the DT, that’s not possible

OK, only patterns within projects then.

No, projects will not load automatically on one device when you load a project on the other. Only patterns do that. But in a project you have 16 patterns per bank, so it’s unlikely you will need to switch projects during a set. I recommend spending some time with the manual to fully understand what a project, bank and pattern is and what each of them contains. It will make things a lot easier to grasp.

Thanks, I understand the difference and my question mas exactly what @JoyrexJ9 explained better than me initially:

when you load ‘project A’ on the ST, then ‘project A’ also loads on the DT, that’s not possible” - that was exactly my doubt and now I understand it’s not possible (would be great, though).

Thanks to both.

I am usually creating projects on my Elektron boxes and saving patterns with the same name. However, I don’t use the pattern change, I prefer to do that manually as it gives more control

Also, if you do want to sync pattern changes between the two, you need to make sure that you set the MIDI configuration up for that in each box. So the ST should be set to send pattern changes, and the DT to receive them.

Yes, that part I got it covered. Thanks.
