Switching kits via MIDI

Does anyone know how to switch kits on the Rytm using an external MIDI device. They’re supposed to be attached to patterns but that doesn’t seem to work for me.

The scenario:
I sequence the unit using my cirklon, not using the internal sequencer. It’s running, but the patterns are empty. Kit and . Both saved. No issue so far. Patter A1: Kit , save pattern. Switch to pattern A2, set kit to . Save pattern. Switch back to A1, no kit change. BOO.

I didn’t even try to switch patterns using PC’s because the abov doens’t even work for me.

where’s my error?

ps I found the global setting “KIT RELOAD ON CHG” but that’s not it either.

I have a faint memory that you need to put a trig of some kind in the pattern, but that may be a false memory.

Edit: if I understand correctly, this is no longer required if you use AR OS 1.30 or higher.
