Hey everyone.
I just made a little tutorial on how to make the Softstep 2 act as a sustain and mod pedal for the Analog Keys. It’s pretty good. Check it out.

Oh nice, I didn’t realise you posted here! I love your videos. I’ll have a look at it tonight!

Oh thanks! I post here from time to time, if it’s specifically Elektron related. One thing I forgot to mention in the video was that I set the sensitivity higher, and the threshold lower. I think it was a bit heavy by default, perhaps designed for standing guitarists? With a lighter touch I feel I can be more delicate.

Very cool. I have a QuNexus I won’t be using it as a pedal but it might be cool to see what it can do as well.

How hard is it to control the soft step with your foot? I have never seen one in person. Thanks!

No problem! It’s very responsive, and being able to set the threshold and sensitivity is a definite plus. For me, treating each + shaped knob as one big button worked the best. Sure I could make it work as a 4-way joystick, rocking it around with my foot - but I just don’t feel I have the same control, like I have with my hands. So the 4-way control might be very individual. But as a big knob I think it works pretty great. I really like the pressure response curve.

Your reasons are why I was looking at the 12 step, I am not sold on the four way pads being to useful with the feet. However, KMI does have some useful controllers.

Yeah the 12-step seems nicer for the feet - But the 12-step editor is not as advanced as the Softstep. It’s primarily designed for playing notes. Not sure how advanced you can go.

Good show, thanks for the vids Cuckoo  i saw your namm vids but what did you think of the K-mix ?? I mean it looks fantastic for the price but do those faders have as much control as sliders or do the values jump around at all?.. also, the EQ sounds terrible on youtube but how about in real life? Im not a fan of digital summing generally but this seems like a really useful device… if it sounds good too… is it a go-er?

Thanks mate! I really don’t know more about the K-mix than what I showed you in that video. I’ll be going to Messe, where they’re scheduled to have a (more or less) finished product - so let’s hope I can get my hands on one and try it for real! Their test soundtrack at NAMM was pretty limited to start with, sort of general MIDI sample’ish feel to it, so there weren’t much in the sound recordings to actually mix there.
The faders were very direct. I don’t know if there’s a switch between direct and relative controls. I don’t expect the EQ or effects to be best in class, but they’ll probably be useful. The EQ does sound a little dry in their demos, doesn’t it? I expect the converters, inputs and overhead to be really good though. Dying to try it for real. Ask me after Messe and I’ll have a better answer.
