Survey on tape

Dear Elektronauts,

My name is Ben Gaster and I am researcher in the field of New Interfaces for Musical Expression and Human Computer Interaction. My particular research is about slow technology with a focus within a musical context.

We are currently working on a paper about how musicians use tape, either physically or as a metaphor, and therefore conducting an online survey about its usage, constraints, slowness and community. I would appreciate it if you would participate and share your point of view!

It has been a while since I original created this thread and I wanted to return as one part of this project has been published. A paper on how musicans work with tape appeared at the 2025 conference for New Instruments for Musical Expression (NIME) and for those interested it can be found here:

Do to some family health issues I have been a little slow getting the interviews of the ground, but the plan is to work on these over the summer, to continue this exploration.

It’s been a pleasure to work on this project from both a personal and work perspective and a large part is from inspiration from this forum.
