Studio Mode Cue/Main question

I’m very new to the Octatrack and couldn’t find an answer to this issue in a search, be grateful if someone could chime in with some advice or ideas…

For my set up I need to use studio mode, but before I found studio mode I’d use the level parameter in the SRC page to control my sample levels relative to everything else. Now I’m using studio mode I have the dual MAIN/CUE levels in the same spot of the SRC page of a sample.

I have the mains going to speakers and the cue to an USB audio interface - I monitor the computer and the Octa through the USB device headphone port and turn the main down when I’m doing so, obvs when I want it coming through the speakers I turn up the MAIN.

Question is, it seems odd the CUE and MAIN aren’t linked in the SRC page as you could change the levels for the one you were monitoring but when you played it through the other output all your levels would all be different.

Am I missing something here or is this a case of having to now set both CUE and MAIN when you want to alter a sample level relative to the other tracks?

If you wanted to keep the MAIN/CUE levels synced I think you might need to use a MIDI controller + MIDI processor potentially so that one fader or knob could send two CCs to control both at the same time.

I use the studio mode on the OT but I’m just using the CUE as a send into some FX for delay/reverb, so I control the levels independantly with a Faderfox UC4, faders for main track levels and the encoders for the cue sends. If I wanted to do what you’re wanting to do I would use the Blokas Midihub that I have everything hooked up into to send both necessary CCs from one control. Not sure if there’s other ways to go about this.

Is there a particular reason you need to use studio mode for this? Do you not have independant headphone/monitor output controls on your USB interface?

The USB device has phones and a pair of outputs but no monitor which would have made everything so much easier!

Yeah I did see that but comparing it to LEV, AMP/VOL seems to distort the signal very quickly, but yeah, I get what you’re saying, it’s an option.

There is no reason why it would distort more if you stay between VOL -63 and VOL 0, as you still have 12 db headroom between VOL 0 and VOL +63.
