Working merrily away, just about to complete a track and deliver to a client.motu 828 MK3 decides to cark it before I’m finished. Whole studio is down, Grrr!!
Now I realise it will likely be several weeks before I’ll be able to use anything until I can get an RME UFX or possible Apollo Quad into New Zealand. Wasn’t exactly hoping to spend $3K right now dead motu just turned off mid session and won’t power up. Dead PSU perhaps? It was dead hot…
Who else has been here? What did you do in the meantime; take up tiddleywinks?!!!
The hardest part is the instant cold turkey of no studio, realise how much time I’ve been spending in there, had the whole weekend to play, my goodness I might even go outdoors had a look at the Motu website and apparently there’s no fuse on this model, plugged it straight into the wall outlet, no go will have a good look tomorrow, but it looks like it couldn’t handle the hours in use and there’s been a few recently.
RME UFX or Apollo Quad? 3K NZD or $3.8K, like the UAD ability to daisy chain additional apollos for for DSP power? Anyone spent much time with the hardware UAD plugins?
Know what you mean about UK fused plugs, was an ex Brit myself, now living in NZ and we don’t have fused plugs here. Half the Motu sound cards have user replaceable fuses, just not this model
Managed to socialise more on the weekend with my new found spare time, but already getting studio withdrawals :had to send the vocalist a bunch of raw vocal takes rather than the comped and processed track I nearly completed.
I can send the Motu to the USA and they will either fix it under warranty or for a flat fee of $100 usd, so all up it will cost around $360 NZD, inc shipping, less than half the price I paid for it secondhand. Even if I decide to buy a new RME or something I reckon I’ll either keep it as a spare or if they send me a new one I could flick it on the help fund the RME.
I had a similar issue with MOTU ultralite. I loved it and was very useful.
One day, coming into studio, turning everything on and then started smelling something burning… Saw some smoke from the MOTU and on the screen it was saying updating firmware…
It smelt so bad that I threw it out of the window into the garden and picked it up later after it calmed down… Since then I do not have a proper soundcard…
is the same thing happened to me with MOTU 828 Mk3. Burned, then repaired under warranty and again burned.
Since that time I have not bought soundcards. I look forward for this over bridge …
If OB does not arrive, my productions will stay off
