It had to happen.
…the demos sound soooooo lush and spacey, wet glitter all over it
So I guess the big question is , this or Eventide Space?? I was close to getting the Eventide, but BigSky seems to have more variations. Maybe too early to tell.
Mmmm… tasty! Must clear some room for this.
Hmmm… Chorale setting, that´s a new one. Gotta try that with my other gears…
It depends on what kind of sounds you want, and also which UI you think you will like. Some people get on better with the Eventide style UI, and others prefer the Strymon style.
Sounds in Space not in BigSky:
Tremoloverb
Black Hole
MangledVerb (reverb w/distortion)
Sounds in BigSky not in Space:
Chorale
Magneto (hybrid reverb/tape delay)
Both have Shimmer - some prefer Eventide’s version, while others seem to like the BigSky’s, based on just these online demos.
As for my personal tastes/desires, Chorale, Nonlinear, and Magneto are major draws for me.
Given how similar the box looks, it is a pity Strymon don’t allow you to upload the firmware of the BigSky to your Timeline or Mobius. Would be epic.
I’d pay something like $100 to be able to do it.
Neunaber Wet allows that.
Damn! Want!
Just ordered the BigSky for delivery tomorrow.
Woo!!!
I can whole heartedly report that the Big Sky is f***ing beautiful! I knew i didn’t really like my Eventide Space but i kept plugging away. I just find the Space too dense. I might try using it as an inline effect but it will no longer be used as a send/return effect. The Big Sky in combo with the Mobius & Timeline is Sublime.
Good to hear! What exactly is Mobius b.t.w? ('scuse the lazy interwebz guy called poontz, I should just go to their site eh??? )
The Mobius is Strymon’s modulation fx pedal. It’s in the same range/format as the Timeline and Big Sky.
GovernorSilver has a point, they should build a box with firmware change hability. Couple of in/outs usb and 100$ for more FX…
It would sell, for sure even if the box is a bit much expensive.
Starting to look like a computer and DAW without the hassle of finding nice converters and/or DI box, drivers, latency… the joy of DSP.
Ok, so in making some side by side comparisons between the Big Sky & Eventide Space i realise that they balance each other out extremely well. My initial concern regarding the Space being too dense seems to have been altered slightly after getting a better idea of the differences between the 2. To my ears the Space seems better suited as a reverb to bolt onto a sound as an added/integrated component, whereas the Big Sky seems better suited as a master send/return effect . The Big Sky sounds so beautiful & effortless & the Space feels thick & slightly claustrophobic. Having both is a great combination. There’s more to tweak on the Space but the Big Sky just sounds wonderful. But if i could only choose 1 it would be the Big Sky.
Ok, I see…it’s a chorus/flanger/tremolo/rotating lesley speaker type of fx box. Looks like it combines a few of their smaller pedals.
I was liking the BlueSky a lot, but now they do this… I’m a whore for reverbs =/
Ordered mine and it gets here today.
Planning on using it for OT and Blofeld, I’ll post my first impressions.
Not that you guys don’t already know its a sick pedal, but there aren’t enough demos/impressions with non-guitars.
First impressions using it with the OT:
Super easy to start automating midi, the CCs are all in the manual, pretty well documented and it works well. The settings are very customizable for a pedal, and the stomp buttons are actually pretty light. They feel nice and sturdy, but they dont really have a click of any kind. The knobs are nice, admittedly much nicer than all my other gear. Nothing much more to say in technical terms, hooked up the cue out to the ins on the big sky, the outs to input C/D and thats it.
In terms of sound, it’s amazing. The guitar demos really don’t do it justice, even the synth demos don’t really. With the OT and this you can get amazing sounds to sample and resample. It really works well with the OT, which in my opinion lacks reverb. Dark reverb gets a little old personally, and this pedal really compliments what the OT lacks. The shimmer is super lush, and can be abused with the OT to do chords of samples. Magneto is great for getting tape effects and the hall reverb sounds amazing. Really every setting on this is incredible.
With a Waldorf Blofeld it really added life to a synth that is usually really cold. nice warmth settings from the BigSky when turning up the lowend and running through distortion on some of the settings. Great effect.
Honestly, it’s worth $500.
