Stopping Play Free tracks in ONE mode

Is it possible to stop sequencer tracks in ONE mode indefinitely?
When pressing TRACK+STOP in ONE mode, the sample stops but restarts with the next trigger.
Does this mean it is only possible with the other modes (ONE2 and HOLD)?

This has always confused me. I mostly prefer using ONE mode since it lets you quickly retrigger a track for adding variety to the timing. But it seems you are trading for the stopability.

What Play Free trigger mode do you enjoy most and how do you use it to it’s full potential?

ONE2 kind of gives you both but I find it’s easy to mess it up. I guess you need to double check the play state in the display first. Double tap to retrigger when it is already playing and single tap to stop it.

HOLD - I barely use this one. Seems easy to forget about a track playing and stopping it unintentionally. But maybe it bears some magic?

I think it starts again if you have placed a trig in the sequencer. I usually start play free machines by pushing track+play (with quantized start to p.length).

This way the octatrack behaves like launching clips in ableton live
