Stopping Flex Machine samples

I’m having a problem doing something that I think should be fairly straight forward. I have a long drum performance on track 1 set to be a one shot sample, and I have a flex machine on track 2 with recorder buffer 2 loaded into it. I place a rec trig on the first step of the sequence so when I hit play on the sequencer the drums start playing and I immediately start recording my loop. So far so good. The problem is that I want to be able to stop the loop on track 2 without stopping the sequencer. I thought I could just hit record AB but that just goes into overdub mode. I also thought about setting up track 2 to play free, but if I do that I can’t use my recorder trig. I also thought about muting the loop but in this particular song I’m working on the loop I record is meant to come in and out on different beats. Meaning, I need to be able to stop and re-trigger it on different quarter notes. for some reason I can’t find a way to do this. Please tell me I’m missing a really simple solution to this. I can’t see Elektron not providing this feature. Any ideas?

I’m a little confused, but isn’t a one-shot recording trig and then PLAYS FREE mode with TRIG QUANT the way to go?

But if I put track two in plays free mode the loop doesn’t start recording when I hit play on the sequencer. Am I understanding you correctly?

Sorry for the delay in replying. I had terrible problems logging on to the forum yesterday. Also my previous post was written in inappropriate haste.

What I meant to say was that you could have a Flex machine on a third track in PLAYS FREE mode to play back the recorder buffer (#2) manually. However, based on some recent discussion, I believe there still may be a problem in stopping the sample when you want it to stop.

It would be worth trying it in case it solves your needs, though.

I would try using Recording-1 on T2 set to PlaysFree.

On T1 you can put oneshots both on playback and recorder.
(You can also set QREC to quantize manual triggering of the recorder).

You can retrigger the drum sample by rearming the playback oneshot (not the Recorder!!)

You can play-stop T2 with your preferred method and quantizing

Thanks for the help. I’m playing around with the plays free mode and retriggering the recorder buffer from another track. I also didn’t know that you can stop a machine by holding the track button and pressing stop. If I do that it solves some of my problems as long as QREC is set to a lower value. I’ll keep messing around with it. The OT is a constant learning process
