oh i missed that. great news. i honestly didnt expected this to happen. hope they change their practice that you have to pay too much for the shipping too.

Same. Mine was way out of warranty when it turned to sticky goop. I hardly used the thing.
Yeah I had tried as well, time consuming with limited success. The unit was effectively unusable imo which is why I got in touch with them, nothing to lose at that point.
I am in Australia where warranties aren’t always time limited, it was more than a few years after I had purchased it. I just messaged them through their support section on their website.
It was an unfortunate situation, Zoom really handled it well from my pov.

I haven’t heard from anybody else they had to pay that much either. Maybe Elektron doesn’t like me.
They did send me a set of Digitone Keys buttons a while ago to Germany and the shipping costs were pretty normal. A bit weird… Maybe someone new working in support who doesn’t know about the button situation?

i payed 28€ last october to germany too. i guess its best to ask about the shipping costs before ordering. some people even didnt have to pay for their buttons. its defenetly worth a try.

In the wake of your message I sent several questions to the support :
- Will those buttons be the default ones from now on?
- Are they double shot?
- Will you provide pots too?
Their answer (I asked if I could share it, they do not mind):
- "We will within a couple of months have a different button design available in our spare part shop.
- They will not be the default button caps on the machines, we still want to keep the original design of the products.
- They are not double shot, they are similar to the original design.
- We will not have a different design of knob caps, these will still only have one option."
So, pretty good news overall. It’s not too hard to source non-rubberized pots. And double shot would have made them last longer, but anything’s better than the default ones.
A bit disappointed that they double down on the original design, but it is what it is.

It’s good to see them finally do something about the situation. I wonder if they will be offered for all products including the e25s.
Since they will only be available as a spare part option, I’m guessing they won’t look or feel as nice as the coated ones. Otherwise Elektron wouldn’t only offer them as spare parts. We will see though.
About the encoder caps, I don’t think these are the same polyurethane coating as the buttons. Aren’t they proper overmoulded rubber? At least on the older units they are, but I haven’t inspected my Syntakt thoroughly. I don’t think I’ve read about anyone having problems with those?

After swapping my buttons out I sure did eye my encoders a while too. Mine are still fine and not sticky at all. I did wonder if they will share the same degradation over time too.

Why would they replace the encoders?, not heard of any going sticky.
i hope they are the same just without the coating. i liked the feel and look better after rubbing the coat away. a solid, not glossy look and easier for me to trig/untrig multible buttons in a swipe for example.
it feels very similar to the md but with a smoother surface than the md.
maybe they know or think that a majority of customers prefere these silky surfaces

I actually do prefer the rubber coating looks- and feelwise, to me it feels like a bit more classy finish. But the possibility of that getting sticky in the future is just not a great outlook. I may drive this a bit too far for most, but I’m really considering using some form of cotton gloves, like for instance those you buy to handle fingerprint-sensitive hihats. I’d like the buttons to last as long as possible. Getting a pair of non-rubberized buttons as spares is a good option for the future though.
