It’s unwarranted. They should be around £400 second hand for what they are.

Digitone 2 killed OG Digitone…
Good for buyers, at FM synth a this price, with 4 parts, it’s great. But not for sellers…
It did but it shouldn’t have.
I sold my DN1 for £330 and I felt like I was giving it away!
I can’t think of a better deal on second hand synths than this one.

It depends on the condition as well.
OG Digitakts are really cheap, too. Pair the two together and you’ve got quite a combination.
(But watch out for sticky buttons)

Choose an OG with clean screen, sometime people have kept the protective film on it. Then buy the smooth caps from elektron shop and you have a brand new OG digi.
until I run out of uses and inspiration the OG Digitone works for me as well.

I felt exactly the same at first, even having used some FM plugins before
I’d advise to stick with it. Patient extended use gives you a good intuition for controlling the character of the sound, and you don’t have to go to the ugly metal squelch zone unless you want to.
You gotta be very conscious and deliberate with how you use the FM envelopes and the ratios. Other parameters are much more forgiving.

Will there be an update to the new machines, like in the Digi2?
I just had an epiphany that the DN did not need other synthesis engines or more voices
What would complete it would be sequencer tracks for effects and modwheel, and modulateable arp.
The modwheel is so great but the way it’s buried 2 levels into a menu and can’t be modulated except by hand is such a gimp. It’s begging for full integration with the sequencing workflow

This applies to DN2 as well… Mod wheel, breath, aftertouch… all have destination matrix but can’t be sequenced.

I’ve just switched the DN2 in my Setup back out for my OG DN and I couldn’t be happier atm. I’m running it together with an A4 and an SP404mk2. The OG DN offers lots of Synergies, quick to set up / access the Parameters and easy to keep an Overview when Improvising.
I feel that the DN2 is wondeeful as a stand-alone Device, just not a good Team Player.

Making big techno kicks on the digitone is better than any other instrument, soft or hard, that I’ve used
They come out effortlessly perfect all day. I’ve made kicks with FM on a daw before and it’s kinda always been a pain
