Status Update on Overbridge [posted February 2018]

There’s nothing left to be said. Only “Overbridge is now available”. Anything less than that will start another war.

Well, to be honest I’m still waiting for an actual explanation, sneak peek or something. What’s the progress and what can we expect. I really doubt they expected such an outcry but it’s only their fault on how they communicated the message. I would merely call it a status update, it really doesn’t say anything about STATUS, features, etc.

by what they were saying at namm id say its nearly ready but they aint gonna give another date after missing 2 deadlines.

The point of the statement is self evident. They are aware of the frustrations and one can only assume that there will be an update if and when they feel that’s the best thing for them to do. Keep in mind the original release was fraught with setbacks/delays - this overbridge release is for a different group of products and no doubt it’s also very demanding to get right. So you will know when there’s news, It’ll likely come in a new front-page statement here. I don’t think we can second guess what’s behind this, but you can rest assured there’s no lack of awareness and we have to trust it’s in their best interest to play their cards as they see fit. Promises of further future dates seems unlikely, but that’s a guess. I think the post above is right - it’ll be ready when it works and it’ll be out soon after that I’d imagine.

I’d like to see a bit of flexibility on releasing a version of the MK1 devices with new promised features and legacy OB support if the wait will be long as those device OS releases are tied to the newer OB release.

The point of the statement depends on how you read it imo.

You can read it like: “hey, we have nothing, sorry, not sure when.” Or it can be: “we are at finishing stage and just need to add feature x,y,z fix bugs, etc. here’s how it will look, etc.” I got the impression it was more nothing than something, otherwise why not share something it is beyond me, it doesn’t have to be specific date (nobody would take it seriously anyway).

Silence in such cases only adds to speculations. I really don’t want to read any more speculations and speculate myself and I doubt they want to hear about this anymore as well. That’s why I was thinking after seeing the noise here they would give more in depth details on what’s going on. DT on official website by the way still says seamless integration with OB of which we have not even seen existing.

It would help them fix their image on OB, give them more confidence and probably even get some good feedback from outside the internal team.

Explanation is pretty simple; the development took longer than we anticipated.
The driver has been rewritten, which is a pretty big undertaking. (The upside of course being improved performance and reliability)

It is an unfortunate and frustrating situation for everyone, but we are working on getting Overbridge out as quickly as possible without rushing it too much.

We’ll see what we can do regarding sneak peeks, I’ll ask about that.

A bunch of feedback and the inevitable, unreasonable feature requests are probably the last thing on earth they need right now. They can put out whatever mess they want as long as it de-cripples my audio outs.

Even if it crashes every third time I try dumping tracks, two outta three ain’t bad.

A post was split to a new topic: Support Query - Off-topic

Guys, REAL musicians make music LIVE and leave the recording to bootleggers.

If they released it like that they would never hear the end of it. Sorry your audio setup feels crippled though. I personally feel like the massive amount of negativity with bugs since the release of the DT probably contributed / contributes to the delay of OB. If I was a developer, knowing the amount of backlash over bugs, I wouldn’t want to release anything that was not Coded and tested to the very limits of my ability. Coming to these boards would be crushing. It’s actually a miracle that Simon shows up at all. He probably has some sort of Taoist superpower that allows him not to take -anything- personally -ever- :muscle:

Thank you for giving some more insight into the situation! That’s what the forums are for, official statements always leave to want for something more.

Hoping to see more while waiting for the release, it may be extra work to communicate details while working on them but in my opinion it really helps to extinguish the fires here and boost morale to keep working. I’m sure there would have been more positive thoughts (myself including unfortunately) going Elektron’s way if we just saw what’s coming when it will be fully ready.

I see your point. But I only had in mind the reasonable feedback and not feature requests, I mean who doesn’t appreciate well argumented feedback? Just gives you fresh perspective.

To be able to do that (instead of speculating) we would need to see more. We would instead have 280 posts which focus discussion on OB features rather than delay and company ethos.

Yeah, good point. Would be neat to have some sort of development diary on our social medias. That’s a tough one to convince the devs about though, hehe! Always tough to show things that aren’t 100% ready - you never know what little detail might change. That said, I see what you mean and I agree.

Hah, I wish! It’s just something I have learned to deal with - it’s not too hard in this case. Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it.

Thanks for the update  I feel bad for everybody who this affected, Elektron included.

I am fortunate that this isn’t a functionality that I’m dying to get and I’m also in the middle of some big life changes that won’t let me work on music for a few months or so.

Before Elektron gear I had troubles finding anything that was well thought out and allowed me to make music how I thought it should be made. I’m glad I have cool gear to use and I’m hopeful that the bugs and kinks will get worked out sooner than later. Maybe by the time I need Overbridge it will be ready.

Bug fixes and firmware updates definitely stave off the feeling that things are moving nowhere. Keep those up in the interim and you’ll have a happy camper here.

Also if Access Virus TI integration is any measurement, everything will be perfect in about 10 years…

I think you guys should simply convince management to hire a community manager. Your user base have what? Doubled in the last 6 months?

I see your point on unfinished things and devs, haha. But you know, just to see it being tested or few screenshots or just a simple post showcasing the progress (we are done with that, next is that, etc.) would work wonders in such cases, it’s not like it’s a secret project anymore

No one would take such a job. Kidding, it is actually quite a good idea I think, someone to act as a bridge between users and the guys making the magic.

I just don’t understand Elektron’s strategy here. 2 of my friends bought Rytm MK2’s and both had to ship them back to Elektron for fixing. A month later one of my friends still doesn’t have his back yet. There are obviously quality control issues no doubt mostly due to the new super fast pace Elektron is releasing products at.

Did anybody even expect an Mk2 RYTM this quickly? Would it have hurt to wait 3-6 months to ensure higher quality control, finished Overbridge 2, etc? I remember I posted a thread where a Polish site leaked the MK2 and most of you thought it was bs, there was no chance Rytm 2 was already coming out this soon. And since then we have had the release of the Digitone, a product that crashed NONSTOP for us testing it at NAMM. There is no way extensive testing was done on this product. The new pace of products is insane! Why are they on such an aggressive growth path? Perhaps new shareholders?

Elektron needs to chill out and focus to finish all development of existing products before deciding to keep flooding us with new things. Set the expectations realistically and everybody is happy. Overbridge 1 was SO delayed, you would think they would learn their lesson there.
And for the people saying its not the end of the world? Of course you’re right. But the only way Elektron will learn from their mistakes is if we, the customers, make it known how disappointed we are. Anyway, still waiting for this fucking transfer app. When I have it , I will be super happy for my Rytm MK1

Exactly. Release things when they’re solid. Make sure you have delivered what you promised/advertised. When that product has matured to the correct point then release another product. The current methodology is making them look like amateurs.
