Anybody know if you can send multiple tracks of audio through usb from M+ to computer? Or is it better to just export audio and rearrange/mix in DAW?
I think I’m about to pull the trigger and buy one, just trying to figure out how I’ll integrate with Ableton. Or if I’m better to just grab a Mk3.
If you integrate it with ableton you have your answer, since you already use a computer…
With maschine loaded as vst in controller mode, you can directly drag and drop any pattern, clips etc…from maschine to your daw as midi or audio.
You also have access to 16 stereo channels of audio in your daw.
As standalone, it cannot be used as a soundcard because the hardware uses the audio interface but you can plug any compatible soundcard in its usb port and use its physical ins/outs.
If you plan to always use it along ableton, + isn’t worth the money because you’ll basically pay for a stripped down maschine able to run without a computer attached @44.1 kHz.
Hope this helps.
I don’t plan to always use it with Ableton. I think I’m just wondering what is the quickest/smoothest way to integrate once a beat gets to that point.
The drag n’ drop feature in vst mode seems the fastest/smoothest if you plan to make beats in maschine then arrage in ableton.
With M+? When you make a beat in standalone, you have to bounce all sounds to audio before opening the project on computer, correct? How smooth is the transition from laptop to standalone and vice versa?
It’s a manual job, copy and paste from or to the M+. There is no synchronization between the machine (software) and M+ Projects. When connecting the M+ to your DAW via USB, you only get three options. Transfer, Control and Midi mode.
I just swap out the SD card when using my DAW or the M+ depending on what I want to do.
And yes, a way to multitrack the m+ output via USB would be great. But until then, the export function has to do the job.
No, all maschine synths are avaliable when you transfer projects. Just mirror copy the folders on pc and m+ keep them up to date whith reaktor custom ensembles and samples. You can open any project on whichever since directories are the same except of course unsupported vst on the m+ in standalone.
How’s stability nowadays for those who’ve had issues in the past? I had a lot of problems and moved on from mine a while ago, but I’m tempted to jump back in if things are properly stable again - as in, stable enough to trust for a live performance.
Never used mine live, just sitting on the couch. Didn’t have many problems with mine to be fair. It did crash on me the other day and I hadn’t saved the track I was working on. When it came back on the track was completely recovered.
I just saw the Fred Again Boilerroom set; where he seems to use the Maschine + with some turntables. I looked them up and secondhand they’re not that much more expensive than an MK3; while the plus can do the same thing the MK3 does and then some.
Insane; is it still that troubled?
Ok I bought one to try at a total steal price. they go for crazy low prices now. The interface looks a lot more polished than the MPC line. The force felt very finnicky with the touchscreen, compared to Ableton. The MAschine looks more like Ableton in terms of UX but I’m reading it integrates poorly. Fuggit tho, nothing to lose!
It has no Audio over USB. I would’ve expected that tbh.
Where?!
Here in NL! Picked one up for 650. But honestly; I’m completely new to the Maschine environment and it was a bit of an impulsive pickup. I just got to know Elektron and Ableton… Lol!
That is why i bought a second one (i have 2 in my setuo now). I´m not sure if its because people are not well informed enough, and then they buy and sell again, or what it is. As you say, around 700 for a M+, that is cannot be older than 2 years, its a steal. If not for anything else, it is worth it just for the hardware upgrade .
In my opinion, using maschine with a computer (had a maschine studio in the past). just adds complexity to a setup - having to use one more “dawish” layer to a in the box production. If not to use it has a center of a hardware setup, sampling everything to the M+ or controlling your hardware via midi, it is awesome aswell as a great sketchpad with amazing instruments.
You need time to learn it. While it is fairly easy to get going with, there is a lot of layers of complexity that can solve most of the initial problems that you have with it.
Enjoy it
Thanks!
I had to force myself to sit on the couch. In front of Ableton I just feel like it’s more efficient to do stuff in Ableton. It’s fun; the learning curve is not steep at all and the soundlibrary is immense. Holy shit.
Can you sample via USB? I had expected it to be an Audio Interface like the Digitakt. I can record that via USB and sample into it via USB.
Also; MPC had the functionality to export a project to ALS, very convenient to load up into Ableton. The Maschine is missing that unfortunately.
you can export all tracks in audio. Its not as streamlined but it works and i bet that if you do it a few times you become more and more proefficient and wont think its a big deal. I dont use it like that though, i perform and record the master.
Its a class compliant interface so i think you would be able to do that, but i haven\t tried.
I guess that the question will also arise: Do you really need it? You probably dont, but if you want a performance oriented box, its hard to beat the M+. If you want to micro edit stuff, you will never going to be able to do that in the M+, or at least not as efficiently as in a daw
Nice; i’ll check it out. As long as it includes automations and stuff.
I have to accept that with these hardware boxes; like the OT as well, you cannot just expect it to perfectly transfer into Ableton. Makes no sense. If I want to produce in Ableton I can. This serves as inspiration / creativity.
I’m a big fan of the expansions and the overall sound. Very well made; Maschine is the best way to utilize those AFAIK. And I can access those in Ableton as well; so those are great.
hey everyone, i’m kinda tempted to get one of these especially since the retail prices have dropped considerably lately (guess they’re not selling well…)
maybe one of you who has it can quickly answer this:
is there a way to map parameters of synths/fx or whatever to an external midi controller?
i was thinking about having some dedicated faders for sends/levels, or a lemur template on an ipad to control one of the more experimental reaktor ensembles. would be really cool imo, but the manual only mentions note and program change input to either play sounds or switch scenes/locks etc.
I found the opposite to be true - switching from Mk3 to M+ seemed to add more complexity to the system. Now I have to bounce everything down before I go into the DAW.
Also, my laptop startup time is way faster than M+.
The feel of the hardware is dope though!
