so it is indeed different in the approach, yes we can define a signature per project (by 3/4), but it is obvious that the project will remain in 3/4.
But !! and this is where maschine is rather strong, we can by pattern adjust (with shift) different lengths to the desired bar numbers. So you have your group 1 drums and you go from a 3/4 feeling to another let’s say even esoteric by simple change of pattern (instantaneous but live here programmable on stage) in addition, therefore crossed rhythms and obtain terrible feelings all while remaining sure to get back on your feet is doable.
By the scenes we can program whether the pattern starts from zero or not etc. the timing of the change.
Already, just on a group, even with a 4/4 signature, we can already move away from a classic rhythm section.
But !! where it’s cool is we can assign a swing per pad, per group etc, so on the oattern tip we can have a kick which swings on additional changes of ‘‘feeling’’! (It’s a long thing to say but it takes two seconds to do live).
But !! I only talk about one group, if we also incorporate other groups (a kick on group one, and snare on group two, or the melody on group 2 etc.) with the first trick we can therefore do ‘‘polyrhythm’’ or ‘‘polymetry’’ I never know. But basically having a rhythm in 4/4 group 1 and a bass in 7 measure group 2 etc., with different swings.
The concept certainly seems poorly explained but in the end it takes two seconds and atypical or “well seen” or random changes can take place, and all this remains natural as soon as you read it in place as you press with your fingers on Pad to do it;) !
when we know that a change of pattern includes the automation of one then the other pattern, we can say that the change of ‘‘rhythm’’ and ‘‘feeling’’ is possible on maschine! .
Below is a jam done only on maschine+ in percussionist mode (with on-board synths etc) I use these “techniques” here ‘‘live’’ to change the groove, the perception of rhythm. and i play live some fingerdrum etc blaba !!
sorry for this big, poorly worded explanatory flight but I hope it’s not off topic… ex typique 1:44 du morceau
