ST, DT and Boum vs AR

My current setup is Rytm, Syntakt and P12 but I am developing a preference for the streamlined workflow of the Syntakt. ST feels very proficient on drums and it feels like overkill to just use the Rytm for samples. However, I do need some kind of sampler so that’s where getting a Digitakt might come into play. I love the Rytms sound though and I am worried about losing some of that gritty character but a Boum on my mixer send should solve that. I should be able to sell my Rytm and cover the cost of DT+ Boum.

Seems to me like a very cool potential set up that covers pretty much everything I could ever want to do. Curious to hear from anyone using or thinking of using some/all of these together.

Hmm just to give you some counterarguments:

More machines = more cables, more possible midi/connection issues, more saving issues
No songmode on DT/ST
Less performance features
No saving the Boum setting with each track like you can with the AR.

Why not run the st through the rytm, use that compressor and call it a day?

I think a good amount of us had a moment where they changed their setup almost completly, which didnt change the Music after all.

Getting ready for playing a show next week and I’m mainly using a Syntakt and a Boum. Syntakt sounds amazing through the Boum–so easy to dial in some beautiful warm overdrive and compression. I don’t use them much, but Boum has 36 preset slots and they can be changed with midi pgm chg messages. I’m seriously thinking about pairing a DT or OT with the ST, so I think your plan is sound. Boum is super playable too–really an instrument in its own right.

Coming from the Digitakt, the Syntakt felt like home to me. So i think you could be very comfortable with the Digitakt instead of the Rytm.

BOUM has 36 presets; 6 banks of 6 presets each. The upper line of LEDs (1 to 6) indicates the bank. The lower line of LEDs (9 to 14) indicates the preset.

Save a preset

Press the PRESET switch for 2 seconds. The PRESET switch flashes to indicate you are in Save mode. One of the upper line LEDs blinks. Press one of the 6 switches (from IN GAIN to GATE) to select a bank. Then one of the lower line LEDs blinks. Press one of the 6 switches (from IN GAIN to GATE) to select a preset.

All the parameters and pot positions are now saved in the selected preset.

Yea I actually didn’t think of this. Interesting idea that could yield some really cool results for sure. For me personally Im not into the “kits” workflow and find the lack of input volume when running things through the AR a bit of a challenge. It also seems a shame to have the AR for mostly samples.

Thanks, some good points for sure. Trying to make sure I really think this one out. For my workflow it seems to make sense because right now I am saving a kit for every pattern on the AR, sometimes 16+ for one song.

Yeah I really wish the more advanced elektrons had a “opt out of kits” mode that more or less made them work like the digi line. Kits are really cool though when you want them.

It’s no shame to use the AR as a Sampler only IMO.
It’s great Sampler with analog filter/drive/comp

I have a Boum and a Rytm. The Boum is unreal if you like dirty, warm sounds. I still process my Rytm through it after tracking through the Rytm’s master comp and distortion. I like going lightly through a few stages of compression and distortion. It seems to give me the best results. I also think the Boum’s compressor is really damn good. If you lightly touch the Rytm compressor, then distort a bit and then follow up with the Boum, it can be a glorious combo.
