SSL fusion

That’s really helpful, especially with hearing your sound in context. I’ve been obsessing of late, trying to find out about different user scenarios and if it will be beneficial.

Has anyone tried using the SSL Fusion at access analog? Seems like a good way of trying it out…

what did you replace your six with?

I wasn’t actively replacing it at first, just decided I couldn’t justify the SSL kits in relation to the modest level on which I produce my music.

For a while, I mixed my tracks as a stereo recording only in Logic, and was quite pleased with the result. Then, as the TX-6 showed up, I got that one and use it now on everything. The convenience of its size and portability, combined with its flexible options to record and route stuff, means it’s much more appropriate for my workflow than any big chunk of wall-powered analogue kit or daw.

I just had an free hour with the SSL Fusion at Access Analog…

Fuck me, this thing sounds good. I also have the plug-ins (which are good), but I can’t get the same weight, 3D’ness or presence, so there’s definitely something extra going on with the HW. I’m going to have to sell a bollock or a kidney to get one after that.

I want to say my ssl fusion is worth it, but damn, plugins have gotten so good lately (and are a lot more versatile)…

Tone Projects came out with a plugin version of the Hendyamps Michelangelo and it is freaking magic. When I got the release email I pretty much laughed out loud when I saw it was another eq plugin. Then I made the mistake of trying it (only because I love their other plugins)… Really killing my gas for outboard gear.

Michelangelo is still one of my favorite bits of outboard. The box tone is incredible and not at all transparent. Absolute best air band boost I’ve ever heard, got to be careful with it because it’s addictive. The way the whole circuit reacts to how hard you drive it is almost like tape and then the aggression knob can really beef up thin/too clean material. It’s been on 99% of my masters since I got it, almost feels like cheating because you get where you need to go so fast. I want to send it in to get the mod done that halves the boost/cut range but have been reluctant to be without it for even a few weeks. If the plugin can capture even half of its magic that’s money well spent.

Michelangelo Cowabunga also adds some vibes.

Fusion is da shit. Sold mine. Sometimes miss it. Tried SSL’s plugs. They’re very good. But they’re not Fusion good.

For anyone else that can’t afford the real thing…all the fusion plugins are on sale this week for £30 each.

Maybe its a dumb question.
Can i use the OTO Boum as a compressor on the insert of the Fusion?

Don’t see why not. I put the boum on the inserts of my silver bullet mk ii and it sounds great.

I think that will work great! I’m inserting my Behringer 369 into my Fusion and it’s a great combo :slightly_smiling_face:

I run a Fusion & Bus+ combo on my master buss chain and use them on literally everything I do. The vintage drive circuit is noisy but I keep it on - this along with pushing the violet EQ high band into the HF compressor pretty hard gives a tape-like quality to the recording

The other thing I use all the time (usually before the SSLs in the chain) is the LTL Silver Bullet VST. Would love the hardware version some day; I feel Ike the Fusion and Silver Bullet complement each other nicely

You absolutely want some kind of stereo compressor on the Fusion inserts - it’s essential
