SoundCloud for Artists (distributing your music)- any thoughts?

You’re still paying a distributor no matter what if you want your music anywhere other than Bandcamp, you do know that, right?

For my part I’m still happy with SoundCloud distribution. Haven’t seen none of that two factor authentication yet, or maybe I did and since it all worked I forgot about it?

Only wish it would distribute to Beatport then I wouldn’t have to pay for two distributors :joy:

I was happy with it too. It’s straightforward as long as you dont need customer service :joy:

Sure. But no label (at least big enough) pays distrokid or some other place $9.99/year and deal with this (no customer service, no help, no real person to talk to etc.)

Yes, I released via their distribution many times up until 6 months ago. Either things have changed or maybe you had already done a two-factor before. For me, I dont care about Beatport. All i really care is Spotify, Apple music, YouTube music etc. If SoundCloud or Distrokid is distributing to Beatport that’s fine of course. I should probably check my earlier releases.

They (not small labels) probably pay a lot more, and get their money’s worth in premium service.

You don’t care about Beatport? That’s interesting!

That’s what I was saying. I would pay much more if I was guaranteed a decent service.

Yeah, dont care at this point as someone who self-releases and has no listeners😂. I will get there though probably with some more label releases. Currently, I only check what’s “hot” to stay in the loop.

After 10 days, I got a response:

“Since we unfortunately don’t have a definitive solution for you at the moment, we will forward your case to our tech team and we’ll get back to you as soon as we have an outcome.”

No doubt this will take another 10 days. and that’s me being optimistic.

i just ran into this too, i had forgotten that i had to turn on 2FA to keep monetizing tracks. i ran into the loop a couple times when i scanned it with my phones typical QR scanner, the QR code needs to be scanned in an authenticator app, I use the Google one.

You must be “the 2FA whisperer”. Because it worked! Maybe the universe needed your message.

hell yeah, let the music flow!!

i blame my 2FA troubleshooting experience on my ill-advised crypto casino stint, but hey guess there ended up being a silver lining to all that wasted time and money

After two disappointing experiences one of which is still going on, i am done with these guys.

An earlier release wasnt distributed on time.
Then, my latest wasnt distributed to Spotify in time preventing me from pitching it. Not that it would have been picked up but hey it makes you feel good. And the track was not distributed to all stores either even after a week of its release.

Lets not forget their nonexistent customer service. Send an email and it feels like winning the lottery to get a reply.

Time to go back to Distrokid and forget about this service exists.

Keep us updated if it’s any better over there (highly doubt it) :+1:

I just checked and i released 9 tracks using Distrokid. Two of them just in December 2024.

Within a few days, it is usually scheduled and i dont remember having issues ever.

Customer service? Nonexistent. So i guess as long as you get it right in the beginning, it’s smooth from there.

I am really going to focus on figuring out “how to start your own label” thing for my releases. As long as it costs less than $1000/year with all the website etc. expenses and distribution, i will take it.

I just downgraded from Artist Pro to Artist on Soundcloud. Pro was ad free when listening. For some reason they still tried to sell one of the Go plans, super annoying. Now I’m getting bombarded with ads, sucks even more obviously. They definitely need to work on their tier management. If the new plan isn’t ad free, so be it (nonsense if you’d ask me). But it’s unclear and not transparent, and thus poor UX. (T&C’s and/or support pages lead to even more confusion).
rant over
Sorry, had to vent to sb.

I got a really complicated problem with my account due to problems with the underlying email-adress, and the customer-service of SC solved it quick, friendly and competent.
