I’m a soon-to-be quadrinity user once again (MD, MnM, A4, AR), and I was curious about the sound packs. A search only revealed one good review for Lem’s sound pack. Anyone own others who want to throw their two cents in? I’d also be curious to know how they compare to the OT packs (eg. 808/909 kits are in both) besides the obvious main machine functional differences!
I only have the AR808 pack (808 synthesis, no samples). Quite happy with it tbh
I tend to grab everything I can find for both MD and MnM, if only for perspective on others’ approaches to sound design, wave choice and sample prep for the MD’s ROM machines.
Away from my gear at the moment, but off top of my head:
The MnM booster pack HQ put out (which is still on elektron.se) helped me approach the arp and the bus system creatively. Together with Lem’s justifiably respected soundpack, they were a welcome intro to the MnM’s capabilities when I was just getting started with it.
A couple of generous forum members have released collections of single-cycle waves for MnM as well, I’ve spent far too little time exploring them but got some nice patches out of them right off the bat. I’ll check their sources and edit this post when I do.
Sounds to Sample put out a samplepack for MD a year or so ago, can’t recall the exact name but it focused on “darker” sounds. It got mixed reviews around here but I’ve found several of the included samples useful in house tracks.
HQ also has released quite a number of samplepacks for MD, many of which are still on elektron.se. They tend to be organized around particular genres of music, but one release was a collection of modular hits. Cenk made a bunch of sysex patterns to go with this latter group and I found the way he tweaked them to be highly enlightening.
One thing I find conspicuously lacking is a good pack dedicated to the MD’s internal synths alone, with kits that take full advantage of its mixing/master effects section and CTR tracks. I’ve considered organizing one but wonder who’d be interested.
Don’t know about the official Elektron sound packs, but if you’re looking for quality percussion samples why not go straight to the source?
A lot of his sounds are licensed by Elektron and other companies for inclusion in sample libs.
I guess you’ll only get raw samples, and not machine specific presets - but if you just want the sounds, it’s all quality stuff.
