But the bastard doesn’t work! It just freezes when you turn it on with the CF card and when you turn it on without the card it asks for the card and then freezes when you insert it.
Any idea what’s going on? Faulty unit, broken CF card or what?
That isn’t a good start. Do you ahve another CF card or a computer that can read CF cards? Maybe a card format would help (though you will lose the pre installed samples… no biggie).
I actually just borrowed some ancient 64MB CF card from my teacher, I’ll try it with the OT when I get home.

Are… all the pins in the CF slot? >.>

You could also try to hold… Function? when you power up. brings up some menu whose functions I can’t entirely remember, but will let you start in demo mode or w/ out a CF card iirc. some sort of wipe option there.
I’ve tried holding Function when powering up and doing a full reset, but the problem remains. I also tried the error checking procedure but it said everything is ok.

Eep, that’s annoying.
It sounds like a wonky flash card. But you would have thought (depending on how it is broken) that the OT would just not detect it rather than completely crash.
I hope you find a speedy resolution.
Well, I bought it new so replacing the unit is no problem, assuming it’s faulty. if it’s the CF card I suppose they’ll just give me a new card from the store.

I thought new OTs came with a CF card - at least mine did. Did you not get one?
Yeah it came with one, but it doesn’t work or the OT is broken. I’ll test it in about an hour with the CF card I borrowed.

be VERY CAREFUL if you are doing a lot of inserting and removing of the CF card.
Eyeball the inside of the slot first to ensure all the pins are straight and don’t force the card in too forcefully if it is getting stuck on the way down.
Ok, I tried it with the borrowed CF card and it seems to work flawlesly. Phew, all I need now is a need CF card.

64MB, I thought you said GB!
Did it come with the 16GB card? I’m wondering if it is an older unit that has the OS with the CF card reading problem. Try an update.
OI! You need a good quality CF card with decent speed to make this machine work. Old 64Meg Cf cards and ‘cheaper’ cf card will cause issues.
I had an issue with an older/small but very high quality card. I think the speed rating needs to be a minimum of 100x perhaps ! I just could not create an empty project on the old card, set worked fine, no problems for me I was just trying that card out as a test.

well, it was the card that came with his OT that was DOA, he wasn’t having the problem with the 64MB card he used to verify it was in fact the original card and not the OT itself that was the problem
Pretty sure he wasn’t intending to use the 64MB card long term lol.

I’m having this exact same problem with a new SanDisk Extreme UDMA 60 MB/s 32GB Compact Flash Card . Strangely though this a card that has been reported by many to be working flawlessly. I’m confused.

It seems to be that one of the pubs my OTs CF reader is bent. Strangely this doesn’t seem to effect my original Transcend C f card which still work. Weird huh? I made a separate thread about it: http://www.elektronauts.com/t/bent-cf-reader-pin-end-of-the-line-for-my-ot/2324
