Soo I think I lost my MnM data :(

Hold function when powering on and select TESTMODE from the menu (trig key 1).

“Empty reset” clears all the currently loaded kit/pattern/song/global data, including the loaded snapshot (but shouldn’t clear the saved state of that snapshot). It leaves user waves alone.

Wow what a fucking nasty, insidious bug. I really can’t believe this. It also boggles my mind that the Autechre snapshot is just empty now. How fucking insane.

The worst thing is I’d have to just redo those songs…Now that I have a better understanding of how song mode works and the actual structure of those songs it’ll be more copy and pasting than fishing and learning. Still, programming those Dens chords is a BITCH sometimes, especially because you can’t input them in with a keyboard. At least all my MD data is still alive and well…

I had a bunch of other patches too, but I wasn’t as attached to those. They were more just playthings.

that’s weird indeed as it’s keeping both names you assigned…

DRAM OK
SRAM OK
DSP2 OK
DSP1 OK

:man_shrugging:

If you don’t save it, it’ll disappear, even when you load via sysex. Which is even more crazy given your situation.

It sucks, but at times like this all you can really do is consider it a fresh start…

Checked the manual and it sounds like a factory reset to me. I assume the Autechre snapshot you made is empty because you never actually saved it. It’s cleared the battery-backed data that was loaded into it, and replaced the first snapshot with the factory presets. I don’t know if that would normally rename the first snapshot in the process though.

Ah okay. At least that part makes sense. I’ll re-upload them and SAVE THEM this time I guess.

Jesus now that I’m thinking about it maybe I never actually saved Snapshot 1 and all I did was rename it…In which case, once I loaded snapshot 2 it wouldn’t have actually kept all my saved stuff from 1, would it have? Dear God. It’s almost worse knowing I did this to myself LOL

You can actually change this behaviour. By default it does not save the snapshot you’re on when you load another one. You have to do that manually. You can change it to a setting that always saves before it loads the next one in.

Does seem like that’s what might have happened. :frowning:

I’ve done this a couple times and it’s entirely plausible that it’s what happened in your case. If this is what happened everything is gone as it was never saved.

Looked it up - the setting you want is in Global Edit > File > +DRIVE > QUICK MODE. You need to change QUICK MODE from LOAD to CHANGE.

Edit - hm, actually I think that’s only when you quick change snapshots. If you go into the main snapshots menu you can still load without saving the current one.

sigh okay how do I do that then? To avoid all this in the future. You know…It’ll be my third failsafe after uploading my sysex and after saving my snapshot.

Well it’s not a bug–totally user error. I wouldn’t think to save a snapshot because, you know…I would assume it kind of saves automatically. What a strange design choice. I think I’m going to go play video games now or something not MnM related at all.

In a way I kinda like the way it works, as you can have a snapshot set exactly the way a live set should start, and then be free to tweak away at the patterns… then jus reload the snapshot to get back to how it was before.

Also, a general reminder to all users to never save your user data into Snapshot 1 or Digibank 1 because those are overwritten if you ever do a Factory Reset.

Noted

I now have a fresh snapshot on number 3 that’s just my name. Currently no patterns or kits or anything… So I suppose I’ve got some work to do. And fun to have.

This is ultimately the best attitude to have about the whole situation. Hopefully it’s easier to recreate stuff this time around.

This song is how I feel. Maybe I’ll make it on the MnM

Yep, I’ve done this too. Learned the hard war about this config setting. Horrible default but hey elektron stuff can make you work for those fun times

Accidentally deleting everything is kinda like a rite of passage for Elektron machines

So sorry to hear this! I’ve luckily never lost more than a day or twos work from save fuck ups, can only imagine the feeling😵

I know I did it once… hopefully never again, luckily I only really lost a cover of doctor mario chill out with cow moos replacing all the sounds. The world will never know what it missed out on there.
