Power supply specs: AA batteries x 6
Oh. Bad decision. I would have much prefered a battery à la S-1. And a USB-C plug for powering.

EDIT: Sorry didn’t see the infographic was already posted above.
I have the Texture Lab - build quality is alright. The knobs have decent resistance, and the buttons aren’t nearly as good as the Elektron mk1 buttons that they’re replicating, but they’re not bad. The machines overall feel a bit light due to being all plastic, but once you put batteries in them they feel a bit more solid. I actually don’t mind how lightweight it is, it means it’s so easy to just grab it and take it to the couch or whatever.
My only real complaint with it is the interface/sequencer. Coming from Elektrons it is very cumbersome to use the sequencer, especially to adjust note length.
Note length isn’t that difficult to program. In record mode just hit one button for the start note, enter that, and hit the button for the end note. It automatically enters a latched note. But I am missing things like microshift
Well it sure looks and sounds cool but I’m getting kind of a chat gpt ambient vibe from it. Can’t really explain it better than that and for the price it’s hard to beat so I’m not mad at it.
Curious about this one…Was on the verge of preordering and then listened to the demos…
Everything sounds a bit “samey” to my ears, a bit “cliché” and of course don’t forget to drench everything in reverb…
Will wait to see if it really brings something fresh to my table…
Same here. I was tempted - especially with the low price - but listening to the demos it seems that it mainly depends on running everything through it’s shimmer reverb. The sounds themselves does not sound very interesting or unique, and it seems mainly to produce the exact kind of cheap and easy generic ambient I really dislike (and I do like ambient) without too many options to take it in another direction. (But I’m not hating on it or anything, YMMV, it’s just not for me!)
“instant ambient”
maybe it’ll need to be in the hands of someone with a unique vision to sound interesting. happens with most gear dunnit. the first wave tend to use a new machine generically, n it all sounds the same. till someone abuses it or dare I say has a birra talent. tho with this one it may be tricky
That is a clever way of putting it. I felt the same way but didn’t have the phrase at hand.
I think it sounds pretty good, and it’s got some great features for the price, but I’m also not really blown away particularly with the sound. I think the issue for me is the stereo-ness is a bit basic, it doesn’t quite have that deep three dimensional thing that some more expensive synths and complex patches can have. That could be easily helped with some mixing and external effects routing though, and most cheaper synths are similar in this regard so I’m not knocking it for that. I could see myself getting one at some point.
Yes, that’s why I ordered it, besides the good price and the format; I really want to abuse this little machine, the input jack is perfect for that.
Thinking about it some more, I think what it could do with is a way to have the different layers have their own reverbs. So you get some sounds more mono and reverberant in the distance and some closer, that’s usually a good simple way of creating a soundscape with some depth. AFAICT the Liven Ambient can’t do that? Is it just a single reverb effect with variable send level from each layer?
wait it has reverb per layer? thats sick. no wonder theres so many reverb algorythms in there
No I don’t think it does -
Seems like a single reverb with adjustable sends from each layer. It would be great if each layer had its own reverb, that’s what I’m saying.
yeah i guess it would be highlighted as a main feature if it was the case… it might be too early to make conclusions. would love to hear from anyone who gets one
If i didn’t have Spectrasonics Omnisphere which has literally hundreds of these Ambient Patch layered textured sounds maybe interested.
Yeah but this cheap-battery-patch/sequence-hardware thingy makes it attractive tho.
Yeah i get that. I think the sequencer is handy.
