Sonicware CyDrums

It’s kind of Aphex in a box: does sound good for sure. I don’t get why companies keep making drum machines with only stereo outs though.

Does it have sidechain like the LoFi 12 XT?

Exactly what I thought as well!

Probably because of audio over USB, but if you want to process separate tracks with external effects, you need a computer, which kind of defeats the purpose of portable groove boxes.

Yeah, and only stereo audio over usb means you still have to track everything out individually if you are going to try and mix it in a daw…

Oh, it’s not multi-track audio USB? Bummer.
I wasn’t planning on using USB audio anyway.

Seems so, there’s a Sidechain Comp as a Master effect

Could be wrong but if it’s like the LoFi12 Xt then it’s two channels.

I really love these glitchy percussive patterns. Would be my fav. drum module, only gripe I have is it has no individual outs. In this regard it is really similar to the LXR soundwise, also Fractal Bits alongside Drambo can get really quick into this sonic territory

Hey, thx for the demo (superb, as usual)

The product page refers to “Diverse Mute features”

Do you know more about that?

I’m pretty fixated on this machine. It is the sound I wanted from M:C, ER-1, LXR, etc. A little more hifi and weird. I do not like the Sonicware plastic and buttons (I returned one of their machines due to how crappy it felt). But the Cydrum sound could push me over the edge into trying again

Can anyone school me in wavetable drum synthesis history? I’ve never heard of wavetables used for drums. I’m wondering if there is a VST that does the same

one of the three engines in Sugar Bytes DrumComputer uses wavetables that tend to start with fewer harmonics and build to more harmonics - this wavetable is modulated by a fast envelope for a snappy attack.

not sure if that is how Cydrums will work though

To be honest, I don’t know. When creating these patterns, I’ve never read the product page (maybe I should have as it sounds interesting).

Yes, there is.

Is there any curve options around the ratcheting on this? Glitchy drums in my mind need that slowly ratcheting and then speeding up until the sound turns into something tonal

Almost that time, hopefully they’ll ship next week.

Probably wishful thinking, but it would be great if you could use the Phones out as an alternate output, and route the tracks you choose to either the mains or phones.

Anybody owning the Lofi XT or Sample Trk knows if Sonicware implemented this? Since these boxes look pretty similar to the CyDrums.

these are some of the most legitimately good and modern preset patterns ive heard on gear, they got some good people making those.
