Song/Chain interdevice syncing

Hi
I have a Rytm and an A4 and I was wondering if anyone knows how to sunc the song/chain mode between them?
For example when I select bank A1 in song mode on the Rytm I’d like the bank A1 on the A4 (in song mode) to be selected automatically as well… Is this possible?
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks

Yes, you need to figure out which one you want to be your master and ensure that program changes are being sent from that machine to your slaved device.

Make sure that your slaved device is receiving incoming program changes as well.

I don’t have the boxes in front of me, but that should get you going.

I have an external keyboard connected to the A4 sending midi cc.
Would it still work if I hooked the keyboard to the usb in (it sends data via usb) and the clock and transport via the midi in from the Rytm?

The OT is the master clock sending clock and transport data to Rytm, then midi thru to the A4

First, make sure that whichever one is master is sending Program Changes and then make sure that the slave is receiving Program Changes. This should be found in the global settings of each elektron.

Once you make sure that they are sending/receiving program changes, be sure you have the master’s output connected to the input of your slave.

I tried that thanks.
However how do I change the track muting for A4 from the Rytm?
Everytime I mute track 1-4 on Rytm the corresponding tracks (1-4) on A4 get muted as well.
How could I change that?
I’d like to either set it so that I can mute/unmute individually on each device or set different tracks from the Rytm to mute the tracks on the A4

I don’t have an A4, but I’m assuming you’ll need to figure out a way to block those messages from either being send or being received…and since, I think, they’re program messages, you might need some devices like this to block those messages from being received via the A4.

No!

The Analog Rytm has a MUTE DEST setting in its GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > MIDI PORT CONFIG menu. If that setting is set to ‘INT’ no MIDI data will be sent from the AR to the AF when muting tracks on the AR. See page 55 of the AR manual.

There is no need (for this purpose, at least) for quad3r to buy additional hardware.

Depending on the model of external keyboard (you didn’t say which model you have), you will probably need to connect the keyboard and the Analog Four to a USB Host device (for example, a computer or other host device).

Which external keyboard do you have?

Ah, right on. Now I remember that option to ignore mutes etc…so yeah, disregard my advice concerning additional hardware, my bad!

On the Analog Rytm, set MUTE DEST in the GLOBAL > MIDI CONFIG > MIDI PORT CONFIG menu to ‘INT’ if you want to stop the AR mutes from muting the Analog Four tracks. See page 55 of the AR manual.

I don’t have an AR or an AF, but I believe that the mute messages are sent on the track’s MIDI channels, so you should be able to choose MIDI channel numbers for the applicable tracks on the AR and AF such that the AR can mute the tracks you want to mute on the AF. That might affect other aspects of your instruments’ functions, though, so take it one step at a time until you’re sure you know what you want.

I’m using a Roli Seaboard Rise which I haven’t hooked up yet… I’ll let you know how it goes with setting it up.
I had to ask these questions in advance

Ah yes! Thanks for the tip… Now I’m going to try hooking the keys up and see how that plays out :stuck_out_tongue:

Hooked up the rise and it doesn’t seem to be sending messages from it to the a4… :frowning:
I’m going to start another thread to see if I can get some help with it

first of all “midi thru” is sending only whats coming from the midi-input …in your case its the octatrack…you need to plug the analog-rytm midi-out to the analog four midi input. that way the rytm sends its midi pattern changes.

yes I have done that and it works.
what I can’t seem to make work is the keyboard which sends midi via usb.
the af doesnt seem to be responding to any of the messages sent by the seaboard rise

how do you use usb from your keyboard to trigger the analog four?..are you using a daw?..if so, you should make the analog for to listen to midi+usb…some where in the midi menu.

quad3r’s problem is that the keyboard has only a USB connection and is not a USB host, so simply switching the AF to ‘MIDI+USB’ will not help. quad3r made another thread to address the issue.

thats why i asked if hes using a DAW.

No I’m not using a DAW, it’s all hardware here
