Some Pulse2 / Blofeld / Digitakt

Hmm,

I grew up in the late 80s/early 90s. The techno from that time heavily influenced my understanding of edm.

Techno was very single sided and minimalistic, a trend that seems to come back in some form these days, mostly niches… Anyway, as kids we tried to use fasttracker and so on and tried to compose on 4 sample tracks, and I have to say, I havent changed my style yet, still using one or two patterns and there we go.

When we hit the dance floor in some small dark clubs everything was about some heavy and deep base, hihats, maybe claps and a good portion of 303, thats all. We could dance on for hours, sunk into the beat…

todays mainstream edm is trying to put everything they got into the songs, overkill, just to difficult to listen to…

KISS (keep it stupid simple), so maybe some like minded has some fun to listen to such “song” (no acid btw, all sounds “handmade”, no presets or so…):

Nice! Excellent description too. I remember very similar dance floors with just low, deep, simple tracks playing in dark rooms. You’d lose yourself in this type of track, and hours would go by. Nice track!

Ah :),

I knew there have to be others out there :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for your kind words.

Listening to the first track, I wish I had the ability to make stuff like this. It really is quite eloquent. It is the like “hang with a few friends at home” vs “going to a party at a bar” of electronic music.

…And I hate parties.

Well done!

It also reminds me of some of the clubs in Mass Effect, if you’ve ever played those games.

Hey Ryan,

thanks for your comment and kind words. I am playing around with equipment since early 90s. I am no musician at all, I cant read notes and so on. It´s more like engineering for me. I tweak the machines until they surrender and do what I want them to ;)… Sometimes this takes ages and does not work at all, sometimes I am surprised by myself ;).

In the posted songs I made following by myself: Mangeling my Blofeld until this strange pad came out (from an empty slot, init slot), tweaked the base on my Pulse2 (also from an empty slot, init slot), and I had a TR8 which I sampled completly into the digitakt. Those “alieninsectiod” like sound are claps, snares and hihats shaped by the digitakt and resampled and shaped again. Drums are a bit tweaked from the original TR8 samples… The rest is just arrangement, I record everything live into my tascam dp 008, ehm and I just have one or 2 patterns on my equipment (Pulse2, Blofeld, Digitakt, Squarp Pyramid) which I change here and there.

Glad you like it, and yes, meawhile I hate parties too
