Some potentially useful live streaming tips

All,

So I’m planning to do a live streamed, improvised gig from home on Saturday using Facebook’s “Go live” mechanism.

Something I’ve found, which might be useful is - the SoundFlower program for Mac. It’s an internal sound routing mechanism, which essentially let’s you take, for example, Ableton’s master output and present it as an input for the streaming mechanism.

Then, the trick is to build an aggregate audio device, but add SoundFlower as the first stereo pair. Google Chrome’s Go Live setup, only picks up the first stereo pair of a device. In this case, it’s the aggregate.

In Ableton, I also added an audio channel, which takes the master output in and routes to SoundFlower. That leaves the master output for my own monitoring.

Gave it a run-through earlier and looks like it works really well.

Hope that’s of use!
