I load the 909 open hihat sample to the sample engine of the open hihat voice. Start is set to 0 and end to 127 … so that the whole sample will be played. By setting hold on the amp page to 100 (or so) the complete sample will be played. Now I want to shorten the sample. So I set hold to 2, 3 or 4 and try to adjust the lenght of the sample via the decay. But for some reasons it doesn´t work. The decay value change in the display but it doens´t affect the sample playback in any way. Only changing the the hold parameter affect the sample playback. Have anyone discovered the same problem or do I something wrong?
nope, sounds like everything’s working ok. in the amp env, hold always comes first, and decay second. so, if you want a short sound with squarelike tail, hold should be 1 and decay 0. If you want a linearly decaying sound, set hold to 1 and dcy to however long fade you want. if you want a longish sound that cuts off without any decay, set hold to a high value and decay to 0. etc.
so, for an open 909 hat, I,d maybe go with a hold of 20 and a decay of 4-8, and then set the “lenght” of the open hat by adjusting hold setting to taste (or something like that). this would give a slight decaying tail so the end wouldn’t sound too gated, and the hold would determine the overall lenght of the sound.
hope that sounds understandable, It’s harder to explain that to just show in practice
ps. If you’ve ever wondered how the amp env attack works… it only works properly when hold and decay settings are short enough! the attack portion of the env is only available once the whole previous env trigger cycle has completed.
also you might want to check out the lfo page for decay, hold and other parameters.
Sometimes subtle settings that go along with the hats pattern gives a nice extra motion,
Don’t forget the offset parameter
Also nice is to blend in a (similar) sample, and experiment with lfo->bit reducer for it.
hm okay, thank you. I already set hold to 1, 2, 3. But either 1 nor 127 on the decay made any difference in sound Maybe will post a short audio clip later.
Will go to studio now and test it. Never tried with one shot lfo. Maybe I will get better result with that.
hmm, oneshot lfo to decay will only change the env parameter. maybe you’re thinking about oneshot lfo to amp vol?
but yeah, check the lfo pahe to verify you are not modulating amplitude bu accident. also verify your trig page settings (esp. make sure env and samps are enabled)
Thank you guys for the answers! I watched Cuckoo´s Rytm Mega Tutorial and when he comes to the point of the scene macros …aaaahhhh!..
I had a scene macro switched on which set decay of the hihats to short.
