[SOLVED] Confused about sounds/synth therefore some questions

Hi guys,

it is so much fun to work with Rytm but I am getting confused so I am having some questions regarding the “sounds”.
sorry but this is my first Elektron device and for me it is not so clear.

  1. when I start with a complete new project the sounds which are used are the “predefined” drum sounds - so I can switch them via double-tapping SYNTH button - here I can choose only specific SYNTHs like for BD1 <–> “BD Hard”
    so far so good.
is it correct that you can see the “BD Hard” “SD Classic” as a kind of instrument which sounds like a BD or SD with the ability to tweak it whatever you want? but I can also use the NOISE GEN and tweak it until it will sound like a BD, right?
there is no way to rename or delete them (just a question only want to know if they are hardcoded)?

  2. you can load “sounds” into your pads - so far so good
is it correct that sounds are a defined set of parameters for synth, sample, filter, amp and lfo?

  3. some sounds are tagged as “KICK” or “SNARE” and I am not able to load these for example in LT6 pattern. but I can re-tag them to TOM but after that I am also not able to load this sounds into it. so what are the tags for? only for me as user to find my self-defined sounds even better?

I am sorry for this noobish questions but as I mentioned some stuff is not really clear for me.

  1. Yes, you can use the noise or impulse to create sounds too, but you usually have to adjust the filter in order to make noise sound like a BD. No, there is no way to rename the machines.

  2. Yes, sounds are defined as parameters: synth sample, filter, amp and LFO.

  3. Tags are for ease in browsing your sounds. Re-tagging the sounds will have no affect on which pads they can be loaded to.

The sounds youre looking at bd, etc, are what synth options will be available to to on the first pane of the editor menus. You can tweak to a sound you like and then save that as a personal sound. Take a look at function+mute for the other sound menu which are customized sounds based on-the synth engine you’ve selected.

Each of the pads has a subset of each of the synth engines available to it. That is, you can’t load a bass drum to a high hat because the technology under the different class of pads is different. Some of the engines are generic enough thatvtheyre available under all of the pads. Noise, impulse, none, for example, so tgatvypu can load your customised configure under any pad if you have this engine selected. This is particularly useful if your sound is only a sample and you want to move it to another class of pads with non compatible synth engine.

There’s a lot to master on these machines - they’re very deep, as they say.
