So I’m integrating my Octatrack more consistently with my live setup now that I’ve ditched some modules that make the OT more required.

Any suggestions for good solid cases for the Octatrack? I tried to do a quick search but nothing came up in initial searches.

Thanks for the help!

somebody interested in building a open source case that OT users can lasercut? Maybe an idea for an kickstarter project? I want one too

These work perfectly, and are waterproof!

Thanks for the suggestions. Any tips on what the smallest (but still safe) Pelican case might be for the OT?

i keep mine in a gun case that’s about the right size w/ eggcrate foam inside

I think the one I linked above is the smallest you want to go with.

What’s weird is that the 1510 is larger than the 1520 dimensionally…

I copped the Pelican 1500 for mine. Seems to be a perfect fit.
Room enough for the PS and a couple cables.

I wouldn’t go smaller or larger…and the 1510 appears to be larger…

These are the spects for the 1510.

How is that larger?

I think the Pelican cases have slightly different dimensions than the Gator cases.

i like the idea of the pelican 1550 but it’s still quite bulky…

i wish someone would come up with a decent solution for carrying two units

Yeah, I debated a larger Pelican. I only have the OT, but to fix my mixer, Dark Energy, and maybe even OP1 in the same box might’ve been cool. But I suppose I’d rather have a bit of flexibility so if I don’t use everything I don’t have to still take the giant case.

Anyway, I ended up getting a yellow Pelican 1500 and it seems great!

I think i’m settled on the UDG Producer Bag (large) w/two Electron PL-2 Protective Covers…
The backpack has a divider that can be repositioned so it’ll be rytm n aleph in the front, octatrack n op-1 in the back (hopefully will be able squeeze in a monome too), power adapters & cables in the sides. BOOM!

Just an update to this for people who may be interested. The Pelican 1500 is great, but isn’t allowed as carry-on apparently. I picked up a 1470 that IS allowed as carry-on and it fits the OT nicely. It would also fit the mk1 A4 and RYTM nicely as I think they’re all basically the same dimensions.

If I’m going to fly with the OT to play some shows, I figured it was worth a more compact solution. I’ll probably pluck some new foam for the 1500 to be OP1 + OT or some different combination.

I’ve had some real Pelican cases and some Monoprice knockoffs and the Monoprice have consistently been a bit better than the real thing, other than the foam inserts being a little softer than I like.

Last december a bunch of them went on sale, which made a PElican-style case $40, but even at full price they’re a good deal.

If you don’t need it to be waterproof and live in the USA, Harbor Freight has aluminum cases for under $25 that also work (again, other than the soft foam, but you can reinforce it with some glue and felt and the real Pelican cases don’t exactly have the best foam to begin with). I’d go for the Monoprice, myself (and did, I’ve been using one for a couple years).

I’d provide a link but my ISP is throttling the Monoprice site so badly that it has been sitting for over 10 minutes and hasn’t even loaded the text text (thanks, Amazon and Ajit Pai!).

Hi,
does anyone tried to fit in peli 1500 octatrack and digitakt together? and also, is 1500 considered as carry on bag for the flight? i have gig abroad in august and need to have carry on size bag for octa and digi. ples help

…and because I can’t stand to see a 6 year 8 month old thread die, here’s one from Swan Cases I picked up from eBay for £25UK.

Don’t know if both an OT and DT will fit (depends on how wide a foam barrier you want, including / excluding power bricks, cables etc). However, using the rules published by Qantas, a Pelican 1500 should be fine for an international flight, because…

  1. the total weight (case plus contents) is slightly less than or equal to 7 kg / 15 lb (sort of - see below); and
  2. the total dimensions (H+W+D) are less than or equal to 115 cm / 45 in.

Pelican 1500 exterior dimensions: 47 x 35.8 x 17.5 cm / 18.5 x 14.1 x 6.9 in = total dimensions 100.3 cm / 39.5 in

Pelican + OT + DT kg / lb = 3.2 kg / 7.1 lb + 2.3 kg / 5 lbs + 1.45 kg / 3.2 lbs = 6.95 kg / 15.32 lb (I doubt ground staff will sweat that 0.32 lb)

Beware of potentially lower limits for domestic connection flights, especially on smaller aeroplanes like Embraer jets and Saab turboprops.

If you’re going international in economy / coach, try to be among the first to board within your group as overhead space always seems to run out these days. Also, if my experience is anything to go by, if you are in the second half of the passengers boarding a domestic flight in the USA during peak times, you stand a good chance of being told to check in your carry-on luggage as you are boarding.

Since the Pelican 1500 is a sturdy beast, a forced check-in shouldn’t worry you. Those items usually come out first so you shouldn’t have to wait too long, unless you’re landing in Toronto Pearson (groan).

Safe travels and I’ll cross my fingers that COVID doesn’t mess up your plans. :airplane:
