Soldering Station Recommendation

Use a weller at work for as long as I can remember, always been good. The one I use just now is- WSD 81.

Far from it, Elektron stuff is rather good if somewhat overpriced.

There’s a huge distinction between a tool you may use occasionally or one you use everyday of your life professionally.

Hence my recommendations.

I’m not some kid without a clue BTW…

Str.

Please do anyway! I’m sure there are other people interested in reading that as well as I.

I went to my local synth shop here in Stockholm: Jam. They’re running a small Weller for at least some of their daily stuff. I reckon that’ll suffice for me!

Yes, if you read my first post you would understand what I was looking for… good day to you

side tip: soldering wick is hella annoying. Solder pump is… better… but even better is definitely just not to solder the wrong thing in the wrong place in the first place, or use a re-work station

Source: has to desolder 100 LEDs from my last project due to overambition. In the end I had to give in and go and use the rework station in my local makerspace.

Looks like you bought something already but another vote here for the Hakko FX888D. Was surprised at how nice it was for the money. Gets good reviews overall.

I find for some situations a pump is better and others a wick. I will not embark on desoldering 100 leds either way

As I said before, this “solder-sucker” has turned out to be one of the best purchases I have ever made (mind you, I do a lot of maintenance on old gear). Gimme your 100 LEDs, I’ll have 'em out in a jiffy:

DTR nailed the essentials, all that I would humbly add is resin flux (hard to clean after but flows the solder for pro results,) 99% ISO and a big package of cotton swabs; quality ones with the wooden handles. (For cleaning of said resin.)

All of this and more can be had at Digikey if you are in North America, amazing place and crazy fast shipping (not sure how they do it actually… they beat amazon in ship speed.)

that is similar to what I used to get them out in the end.

Lesson: don’t try and be all clever and put rainbow colour change LEDs in where they shouldn’t be.

worked out ok in the end…
