I realize this post may border on marketing spam, it is not my intention to spam but please remove if deemed inappropriate…
I am posting this because I have pre ordered a very slick laser cutter engraver from the folks at http://glowforge.com/
and they have a clever marketing campaign that gives both myself and anyone who orders through my referral link $100 US off their purchase.
I feel posting this here to be appropriate as this forum is frequented by many creative persons, some of whom may be interested in the possibilities that this machine offers at this price point.
From a gear related standpoint, amongst many other uses, I see this machine as being invaluable for designing custom enclosures for DIY synth projects etc, cutting and engraving face plates and or custom overlays for existing gear and such things as racks, risers and stands…
Well, I haven’t seen much interest here… but I figured I would let anyone who may be interested know that if you have been tempted by this, the pre order phase is over at 6pm PST Friday and then prices will be going up significantly. Also not sure if my referral link that saves us both $100 would work after then.
You know you wanna cut your own custom enclosures style flips!!
I look forward to seeing what a fellow Elektronaut would do with one of these! I will be sure to come back and show off some stuff once I get mine
Remember, this is the link for the additional $100 discount http://glowforge.com/referred/?kid=H5xzt6
(fyi, I have had three purchases through my link for a savings of $300, thanks to whomever it was! )
Dude, I would so pay you to make me a 2 unit stand for my AR/OT combo based on some custom drawings I’ve made based on a Buchla boat. Would you possibly be interested in that arrangement? If you like the way it turns out I’d let you use the drawings in perpetuity so you could start a little side business selling stands for these guys.
Let me know if that interests you and I’ll send you my drawings. I’d gladly pay for materials, shipping and whatever fee for use plus your time you felt was fair.
Shipment of the Glowforge has been delayed until fall but I’ll check back in when I receive the unit, have had time to learn my way around it and yea, perhaps we can work something out along those lines
Hi NRain, just came across this the other day, really impressive tech if it does what it says on the tin & can see a bunch of uses for my needs. Which model did you purchase?
The pro model. Main difference being improved cooling for longer running, 45 watts laser and 1/4 " passthrough slot for infinite length x 18" wide materials.
I’m just hitting the halfway mark on a graphic design degree and this is the sort of thing that I would love to get a pro’s opinion on. Something like this could really help me work for myself and create items to sell. My city is currently making a lot of efforts to incubate small businesses and something like this could really get me started…
I’d love to hear more opinion on it as I investigate further.
Yes the ‘PRO’ is the one.
Passthrough, more powerful laser, optics etc sounds good.
Just wondering what the ‘additional safety precautions required’ might entail.
Some more detailed comparison specs between the models would be ideal.
Works out to $7k+ AUD after customs+shipping, which is fair considering the technology and ease of use, but… 8 ‘estimated’ month wait after payment without any reviews or models or reliability affirmations in the wild yet, therefore desire being tempered by caution. Look forward to hearing some first hand experiences before jumping onboard.
Just read your link RytmTrak… some of those concerns are legit I guess, but some of them seem like fear mongering as well.
I figure the ideal would be to pre order not long before the first ones are sent, then can refund if it gets bashed.
