Smallest recorder with tempo beats

Doesn’t the Zoom R12 have some kind of basic sequencer and samples built in? I haven’t checked out the R4 yet but it’s probably a good option if it has similar features in a smaller form factor.

I’m hard pressed to think of any other multitrack recorder with dedicated drum tracks that isn’t a sampler first.

Yes I’ve been reading about it there seems to be a sequencer. I think it is for FM drums or synth patches - there is a simple FM synth included under the hood! The real drums are recorded loops at various set tempos.

I was looking at its bigger brother the Zoom R20 as the smaller R12 looks really cramped to use.

why chase a multitrack recorder like r20 or bluebox when you want to record one line at a time.
i use blackbox to record seamless tempo synced digitone loops and it works real smooth and fast.

you can record over and over one pad if you want, files will be saved. Each project has its own recording folder, making it easy to batch name. You can also auto-multisample your synths to expand their polyphony to 24 voices*. After all that you still have 15 pads left to use for drums or drum loops. If you dont need multitrack recording, i think BB wins at pretty much everything.

*if playing multisampled instrument, you will be able to record lines just fine with internal resampling, but you would have to use metronome only, otherwise you will print drums onto recording. still, great option to have esp for mono synthesizers.

Yeah. The “unlimited stereo bounce and last undo” makes it useful for a small recorder.

TP-7 is interesting to say the least, not sure it would do what I want though… maybe.

On board multi track recording on this device… the world of mixers with recording capabilities is pretty mysterious.
