I’m pretty sure that the answer to this question is a good ole fashion “no”, but maybe I’m just not thinking smart about it. Working on project right now and I have some parts that are sliced and have the track set to slice mode. Besides cutting the sample into 64 slices and then letting it ride out, which introduces it’s own set of problems, is there a way to start a sample in the middle of a slice, or is it basically choosing one or the other (slice vs. start time)?
Also, if I have a sample that is 9 bars long with the tail and I set the TRIM to 8 bars, will the start time respect that and start at bar 4 if set to 64, or will it start at bar 4.5? EDIT: I guess I can test this myself, which I did, and the answer is that it will start at bar 4. Eeeeeexcellent.
Correct. Slice mode is either on or off. You cant have both.
How ever… you have 8 track recorders at your disposal at any time, a CF card with ridiculus memory, 8 audio tracks at your disposal, 256 sample slots, and the ability to sample lock per step, per track.
Resampling is your friend.

Oh I know what I’ve got
Just wasn’t sure if there was a way to use both, but I figured there wasn’t. I did, however, assume that someone would have some gnarly LFO trick that everyone seems to have to solve all the things Elektron sample-based. Haha.
I have all the tracks filled up with loops for a set I’m working on and resampling doesn’t work for the current state of the project.
It does seem that, as long as I trim everything to multiples of 2, it’s rather easy to calculate what value between 0-127 is needed to start at different times in the loop. The only downside to this method is that you don’t have the ability to keep the fade out tails of the loop with the trim set. I think I’ll manage with that, but it’s a bit of a bummer.
Thanks for the input, though, I do really appreciate it!
Why not? The track recorders are always available regardless?
Or if you are particular- Have you filled the last bank? If not, use that as a resampling bank. Just copy the track you want to sample, dump it on your resampling bank, resample, save the new sample, then go back to your working pattern. Sample lock your face off. Easy.

Edit ah you’d like start time in a slice! So yes, probably resampling, or Audio Editor Crop Selection…
Select Slice > Edit > Crop selection
I understood having both modes in a track, which is possible iirc :
My 2 cents, not sure if it helps you, but as you can use the same sample in 2 different slots with different settings; you can have one with slices, the other one without.
The slot without slices should behave as in start mode, so you can plock it in a track with slices on. (64 values instead of 128).
Yes, slices grid can be made from Trim selection!
I like that idea! I’ll have to try it at some point. I started toying with the trim and sample start times and it’s working pretty well initially. Setting up loop allows it to seem like a full pattern, too. I could utilize some of what @sezare56 said, too, to swap between things quick.
@sezare56 that’s a damn good idea, too. Easy to change samples, or even parts, on the fly.
