Sidechain pedals

Hi,

I’m looking at getting one of these and now there seems to be a few on the market. Has anyone compared them or have experience with any of these! Clean seems super nice and not sure if Press has any advantages over it besides being a bit cheaper. And then there is The Pill that just got an updated.

Any thoughts about these?

I think there’s also the neon egg planetarium, which is similarly expensive, but I heard a few people say they liked it. I’ve never owned one personally. Definitely has a sidechain input though.

Just adding the Rainger FX Deep Space Pulsar as a cool/unusual sidechain/gating pedal.
Tough to find now and mono.

I’ve got an Empress Bass Compressor, which has a sidechain input. It’s mono. The sidechain input is of the send+return type - they mainly expect you’ll put an eq there but you can make it duck if you pass a key signal only to the return path. It’s got a couple of controls for colouring the sound as well as typical attack/release/theeshold etc.

Oto Boum also has a side chain input for its compressor. It’s key type rather than s/r type (I think), and you can also trigger it over MIDI. It’s a bit chunky and only kinda pedal-ish.

Cool I didn’t know it had side chain inputs as well. I haven’t looked at it since I decided to get an Analog Heat +FX.

I looking at anything really that isn’t eurorack.

Anyone that has made a comparison between the Press and the Clean?

Just a question out of complete ignorance: why would anyone need a compressor for synth parts?

So you can have the synth sound ”duck” the kick drum would be one and probably the most common use case I think :relaxed:

The other way around, no? The kick usually causes the synth to duck.

Yeah that’s what I meant :relaxed:

Edit: after reading what I wrote I can’t see that I meant something else haha but maybe that’s just me

Sorry… I’m probably being overly picky today.

I get what you mean now… typically Swedish grammar getting in the way for me :grinning:

Yeah but its sexy. I love how it feels like a piece of telecom test equipment from 1979.

There are some options out there… I was mainly going to decide for either Clean or Press burn now I’m not sure. I like that they can make the sound better also.

All compressors can definitely make it sound worse, too. Loads of choices.

I have The Pill pedal. It’s great!

You get a lot of control over the shape/duration/intensity of the sidechain pump.

Not sure what else to really say about it, if you have any specific questions feel free to ask away

Yeah for sure… I was mainly thinking of Chase bliss Clean in this scenario :relaxed:

I haven’t tried it but Templo Devices makes a really cool looking mono compressor with sidechain,

pocket studio compressor
