Could be a reverse ramp wave on a pitch lfo but then velocity mapped to that lfos depth with some retrigger ramp intensifying the velocity?

Maybe a tiny bit of velocity mapped to the logo rate as well, to give a bit of humanized, exponential esque trill?

I had a go at guiro, tablas and some toms.

For the guiro I used Sy bits with a lot of SRR, ramp LFO to volume, second LFO to speed.

Toms are SY Chord, tablas are SY Bits.

I’m pretty convinced that we’ll get new machines, filters and fx soon and it’ll be interesting as more things are added just how much they’ll potentially change the signature sound the ST currently has. Really looking forward to what’s ahead.

It definitely has a reverse pitch lfo. The sound source itself is the clapsynth with a full adsr where I modulate the spacing with an lfo. That’s the gist of it. Then it’s endless tweaking of lfo speeds, depth, ramp and an eq filter to get it right ‍:dizzy:

I didint like the the demos either. Also in the beginning I wasn´t impressed of the the syntakt also.
But as I started to use the box creativitely and without trying to copy something else it opens up .
Learn the machine an go with the flow. Use layers and the fx track.

Here is a raw exerp of a track I am working right now. I´ve done it in 2 hours outside on the countryside with an external battery. Just sitting on a bench in between nature.

Some work to to, but I shows the direction very well.

Sure thing:

I hear a lot of drums that just sound very thin/tinny - that instant “this is a drum synth” awareness. If you’re doing something like electro 100% of the time, it might not be an issue, but comparing it to something like organic drum breaks you can tell something’s missing. That something is usually related to either 1) a lack of complex harmonics (some of the native machines can do this well, some I end up layering with other hits on an additional track) 2) lack of variation in the individual hits (this can be fixed with lfos and/or parameter locks modulating decay/filter cutoff/tune/etc. to create a human feel) 3) lack of reverb (compared with sampled drums, you’re missing the room ambience, which provides extra body) or 4) not implementing swing or micro-timing adjustments as necessary.

On the other hand, I also think it’s sometimes useful to have that thin synth layer when I just need a little extra presence from my Digitakt samples without muddying the mix. In which case, everything above is usually tossed out of the window - I just layer the thin hits where I might be lacking a certain tone or transient in the sampled drums.

I believe there are many alternatives for analog bass. Seems to me it’s just a small part of the Syntakt and couldn’t see myself buying it just for that feature.

We live in a golden age of cheap analog synths. Ok, most of them are from the company I won’t name, but still, if you already have another Elektron box - like a Digitakt - to do the sequencing, you can get anything MIDI and you’ll be golden. You can even get a second hand Peak for less than a Syntakt, and that will deliver a much wider gamut more in terms of analog bass sounds…

Make sure you try it before you buy it. Nothing is more frustrating than getting a relatively expensive piece of gear and realizing that it doesn’t meet your expectations… This said, I have one and it’s a fantastic box. It can do tons of different things. Not sure if latino music is one of them. I’m quite sure someone capable could prove me wrong though.
