Should I get a Syntakt if I haven't liked any demos?

I don’t think it’s controversial to say it has SOME distinct sounds. It definitely has machines that cater to very specific sounds not often heard elsewhere, even if the underlying synthesis methods in each machine are pretty standard for the most part. It’s partially in the way functions for each one are combined, and partially the way the “curated” modulations and settings are arranged/provided.

Exactly this. The way its machines are configured means it has a certain proclivity that is easy to spot when it’s being used as intended with knobs modulated along with other performance tricks.

But you’re right that it can also sound fairly transparent as a pure VA/A synth.

It definitely takes some flight hours to get a feel for where you can push the Syntakt. I’ve made lots of music on it and it’s increasingly sounding more like “my” sound rather than the Syntakt sound - but I’d still argue that the Syntakt sound is still there in its filters, machine types and overall quirks. I consider it a good thing because it’s a sound that I like.

This is why you get a Syntakt or a Juno or any other synth I think: because it’s characteristic sound.

Syntakt grandfather, M:C, can produce groovy percussion lines with their macros linked to velocity on the pads + some retriggs:

Could be a reverse ramp wave on a pitch lfo but then velocity mapped to that lfos depth with some retrigger ramp intensifying the velocity?

Maybe a tiny bit of velocity mapped to the logo rate as well, to give a bit of humanized, exponential esque trill?

I had a go at guiro, tablas and some toms.

For the guiro I used Sy bits with a lot of SRR, ramp LFO to volume, second LFO to speed.

Toms are SY Chord, tablas are SY Bits.

I’m pretty convinced that we’ll get new machines, filters and fx soon and it’ll be interesting as more things are added just how much they’ll potentially change the signature sound the ST currently has. Really looking forward to what’s ahead.

It definitely has a reverse pitch lfo. The sound source itself is the clapsynth with a full adsr where I modulate the spacing with an lfo. That’s the gist of it. Then it’s endless tweaking of lfo speeds, depth, ramp and an eq filter to get it right ‍:dizzy:

I didint like the the demos either. Also in the beginning I wasn´t impressed of the the syntakt also.
But as I started to use the box creativitely and without trying to copy something else it opens up .
Learn the machine an go with the flow. Use layers and the fx track.

Here is a raw exerp of a track I am working right now. I´ve done it in 2 hours outside on the countryside with an external battery. Just sitting on a bench in between nature.

Some work to to, but I shows the direction very well.
