I happen to hate the way this thing sounds and find the limitations of the knobs to be quite frustrating. There’s times where I enjoy her presence but It seems that the relationship is coming to an end. My homies been telling me once I have my ot Ill start to like it a lot more but I’m not that convinced and honestly would love To use the money from the prophet to buy my OT. So let me know your thoughts.
Funny, I’m trying to sell my Octatrack mk2 for a Prophet 6 module. They are two different animals, right?
Anyway, if you’re going to invest the time and the money into really mastering the Octatrack, you going to need source material to mangle. The Prophet 06 isn’t a bad choice.
What kind of sounds do you want? I wouldn’t hold onto a synth if I didn’t like the sound of it, let alone the interface.
Feel that and true! I think Im just at a point where I would rather have multiple options to feed the OT than just the prophet. Are you set on getting the 6/ does the 08 interest you?
Facts! I think Ive just really wanted it to be something that it wasn’t. Just got the emu mp7 and am looking at some old kawaii racks and ensoniqs joints. Ideally I want to have a bunch of different sound sources feeding the OT, Ive realized I enjoy the backwards nature of some these old digital synths. So if you have any recs they would be greatly appreciated
If that’s what you like go for it. I’ve found that after years of trying different synths, I like knob per function units. No sequencer (besides my monomachine), no bells and whistles. Just turn knob, move slider, change sound. Instant satisfaction.
I’m set on the 6. the DCOs and the Curtis filters on the 08 don’t do it for me.
Prophet sounds very thin to me. Some people say it’s not…
That very much depends on which Prophet you are taking about
The DSI sound is peculiar for sure, it‘s a love-it-or-hate-it affair in my book.
I personally like the Prophet 8, Rev 2, Prophet 6 and Prophet 12 but I don‘t own any of them.
The OT is of course a totally different animal. I LOVE my OT mk2, it’s the heart of my setup and provides me endless inspiration. Being a sampler, it can sound however you need it to sound. I’m not sure feeding it sounds from the Prophet 8 makes great sense if you don’t like its sound in first place.
My suggestion would be to sell the Prophet 8 get your OT and if you have an iPad and want those sounds to feed your OT get some good synth apps to start. Or sample anything else. That’s the beauty (and the difficulty) with a sampler, you have to think about what you want it to sound like
The used prices of Prophet 8 modules have been stable around 700-800€ (at least here in Germany), so if you find you miss it you’ll probably be able to buy one second hand no problem.
