Hy Guys,

besides my latest research with Field Recording (i just started field recording) i found a great connection of gear to take on the road, without needs of using any sorty of PC.

It’s cheap,
it’s handy
and to play with it is dope (whats most important)

As some kind of need i bought a MDJ- 500 from Gemini, which is just a Media-Player. Mostly i use this little thing to play out some Sets, or also as a Midi-Controller. I think the quality beside the price (in Germany it’ts about 150€) is unbeatable.
First I thought this little machine is not as solid as the 1k Pioneer media players, but if i play with it for about 1-2 years it’ll be ok.
So i was playing it, the last year, everytime with an odd USB - stick.

But there are way more possibillities.

The last weeks i got more creative and found some different ways i wanted to share with you Elektronauts:

  1. You can hook up any kind of external harddrive (im using a 10 year old big hdd)

  2. You can hook up a Tascam DR-05 which is just so great!

The MDJ-500 just detects the USB Recorder of the DR-05 and you can play your “records” (even field recordings, or tracks or whatever sound you do on the sd-card) straight outside the device!!

Possibilities: - you can play around with tempo
- you are able to use the jogwheel for creativity and workflow
- you can safe up hotcues to make some kind of “little field recording” sets
- a.m.m

To sum it up: The combo of the Dr-05 by Tascam and the MDJ-500 by Gemini is a cheap way to extend your Sampling workflow to a next level. Mostly i was suprised about this little Tascam device which costs about 80€ and the possibillities.
What you get: -a decent microphone
- a little recorder with 3,5 jacks in and out
- onboard effects, like reverb and stuff
- and the “plug and play” possibility to just hook up the usb cable to a media player like the MDJ.
