SFX-6 DSP 2 Failed

hopefully it is just a seating issue. or a cold solder joint or something simple.

I would imagine there’s someone who’s replaced the DSP before, somewhere. but either way… it’s something that needs to be pursued and documented, because people with MnM’s and MD’s may need to do this repair eventually. we can’t let these amazing machines just die!

There’s a local guy who builds analog synths. I’ll shake his tree and see what happens.

Please keep us poste… unless he fixes it right quick and you get lost in that beauty of a synth again!!

Sadly, the local guy declined.

Yes, maybe try someone more specializing in SMT and digital repairs? A vague google shows https://kappatronix.com/ , but I can’t vouch for them from where I’m at.

Maybe a kind person at https://accelectronix.com/ could give you a lead on a local independent.

Kappatronix was the last person to service it, and he’s retired. If only I’d known that the chip was misbehaving. I would have asked him to focus on that, rather than my vague, “Sometimes it doesn’t boot all the way”, which of course he could not reproduce. I’ll check that second link. Thanks!

Sigh, at least my google-fu was in the right ballpark ;(

Good luck!

I’ve got a couple leads for a tech to repair the unit. Are schematics available?

Elektron repairs in-house, so not publicly available to my knowledge. I would call their service center to ask.

Hey glaive - long time no see. I remember the name of the Elektron repair person in Georgia before they went in-house when Erase moved to Cali. I don’t know if he is still interested/available but it’s a lead and he obviously knows the unit. Good luck!
