Setting up AK CV for MG-1

I’m having an issue getting the CV up and running correctly with the Radio Shack Moog. When I trig a sequence to the MG-1, it seems to play fine but then whatever the last note is keeps playing until the first note happens again, no matter how I set the MG-1. Endless sustain, essentially.
I got out the multimeter and checked my cable (standard insert cable) and when no key is pressed it reads 8.4mV, when a key is pressed it reads 5.0V. i don’t know enough about CV to know if this is correct or not…

CV a is setup to Pitch V/Oct, Mid C 3.0V, 1V/Oct.
CV b is setup to Trig, S-Trig, length 32, 5.00v

Any help would be appreciated, as this is my first real foray into CV. Thanks in advance. :+1:

Wouldn’t cv b need to be set as Gate rather than Trig?

I’ve sold my A4 on but I recall that was how I sequenced my external gear.

I’m new to CV, so when it said “trigger” on the back of the synth I went with trig. Now I will try gate. Thanks for the suggestion.

So I got it working. It doesn’t like the Hosa insert cable. The cable tests ok and passes audio fine, so I’m not sure what the problem is with that.

It seems to work fine using 2 regular 1/4 inch cables using CVA and CVC for pitch and gate respectively, an easy enough workaround until I get a higher quality insert cable.

Glad you got it working. I have heard that some insert cables work better than others. The ones I had were fine so I never had to look into that side of it much.

I think the MG-1 is well known for labelling things strangely (bell tone for ring mod, contour for envelope etc.). It doesn’t surprise me that it labels Gate as Trigger. Gate will allow you to do differing lengths of note intuitively in the A4 sequencer, unlike Trigger.

Check if the insert cable is wired to the “tip” on both sides.

The insert cable I bought had tip connected to tip and ring connected to ring. They should both be connected to tip.
