Sequential Trigon-6

I wish you could sync the same osc that fm, and it had a hpf, then I would get a trigon… I hate how they don’t make a perfect poly, each one has amazing things but nothing has them all… I don’t need a bunch of four thousand dollar poly synth’s…

My issue exactly…Almost got the Polybrute for versatility… but found out in the last minute that it weighs 23 kg  Hydrasynth + Trigon is the perfect combo for me, the Trigon doing everything that needs to be analog superbly…

Has anyone managed to find a nice case / decksaver for the desktop module? I can’t seem to find anything online :frowning:

I was going to say they’re surely the same size as the Prophet 6 / OB6 modules but they’re all very slightly different:

Trigon 6 desktop - 22.00” L x 8.45” W x 4.54” H (55.88 cm x 21.46 cm x 11.53 cm)
Prophet 6 desktop - 21.25” L x 7.43” W x 4.4″ H (54.0 cm x 18.9 cm x 11.2 cm)
OB6 desktop - 20.75” L x 7.8” W x 4.4″ H (52.0 cm x 19.8 cm x 11.2 cm)

Yes - I was also assuming that but htne I double checked with my ob-6 module and it doesn’t fit. I find it a bit dissapointing actually that they wouldn’t make them all the same exact size for case / decksaver compatability. Maybe they are bing pressured by “big accessory lobby”

I got this for my ob-6 https://analogcases.com/products/unison-prophet-6-desktop which I’m surprised is an extremly tight fit sice it’s also marketed towards the prophet 6 which is even wider.

Haven’t tried to squeez in the Trigon-6 since I don’t want break or compress the foam too much

I got this after an endless research: Heavy Duty Case with Pick Foam by Gear4music, 583 x 275 x 170mm at Gear4music
Had to refit it with 12 mm (1/2") self-adhesive foam on the sides as it is just barely wide enough, but its light,
sturdy and works for me…

I was thinking about getting a Bigon, but may get a Trigon instead.

ah yes it just came out recently… thanks

I’m embarrassed it took me so long to try one of these. But I did and now I think it might be my favorite Moog? I’m going to have to find a way to get it and a Muse side-by-side, because having merely noodled on both I can’t call a winner. First Sequential to really hold my attention since the P12.

Interesting nobody is talking about this synth. Did just nobody buy it or care? Or are those who have one just happy and make music?

It costs like three and a half Elektron’s… Most people would never think of spending that on a synth that is monotimbral and pretty simple… plus the p6 and the ob6 have been talked about to death and this is basically a different flavor of the same synth…

It is a great piece of gear you would love… I have never regretted buying my p6… What else can people say about it?

Exactly, you could say the same about all the Prophets, Oberheims, Moogs etc., yet they’re so much more talked about and loved. Which makes the Trigon seem like the odd child. Was just wondering, all of this doesn’t matter of course but we’re on a synth forum .

I could do some speculating on this. I think some of it had to do with timing. When the P6 was released, people were looking for that classic Prophet 5 sound. The P08/Rev2 sound great, but didn’t quite hit the mark, so even though the P6 was more of a reimagined/updated Prophet 5, and not a clone, it had a lot of excitement around it. It was also released at a time when there were not a lot of analog poly synths on the market, and it was also a VCO synth, which was exciting too.

Then a year later they release the OB6. Again, very exciting as Oberheim wasn’t doing much around this time. You really aren’t getting that sound anywhere else, so OB6 was got a lot of deserved hype, and again, the poly market was heating up, but not as many options we have now.

There was a large gap of time between the OB6 and the Trigon 6. A lot of poly synths were released, including a new Prophet 5, and the OBX8. A big thanks to Sequential for constantly putting out new products. But, by the time the Trigon 6 is released, there are more options than ever, and the price points of the 6 series have risen to where they are now.

And to add to the mix, Moog has released the Muse, which is another new poly Moog, but this time by Moog themselves, and is priced similar to the Trigon 6. One of the big differences here is all the bells and whistles the Muse has to offer, a lot of sequencer options, and mod options as well.

I think the 6 series are great synths, I’ve owned the OB6 myself and loved it, and the Trigon 6 sounds fantastic. I have played the Trigon multiple times when visiting music shops, and it is very easy to lose time tweaking one. It’s definitely got a sound the other 6 series don’t have.

At the end of the day, I think what Dave did awesome with the Trigon. Moog wasn’t putting out an affordable poly synth, do Dave did it for them, LOL. And I have a feeling that affected some of Moogs decisions regarding the Muse as well.

Yes I agree… All three are modern classics in a way the moog’s aren’t…
But dayum that muse is fire… I can’t imagine not getting it over any of the 6 series. Except if you are very weird like me and actually prefer and want four octaves and no real screens…and have a thing for sequential. They are dependable old school yet modern in a package you can actually take places.

I think that this is by far the biggest contributing factor to the popularity, or lack of it, of the T6.
For that much money you’re getting surprisingly little, unless you really want a Memorymoog-lite sound in your life.

More people seem to be selling their Muses than there are people selling their Trigons. So while it appears that the Muse gets more hype, it also earned a reputation for being problematic in a few areas. Nobody’s having any issues with their Trigons. So the contentment of many happy customers also keeps things a bit quiet in discussion, as more people are actually enjoying their Trigons and have no reason to complain until some idiot starts whining about the keybed only being 4 octaves.

Perhaps because more Muses than Trigons were sold in a first place? :man_shrugging:

This said, Sequential has landed a great synth with their T6. They are the master of poly synths.

Amazing on the other hand how Moog is still able to milk their Minimoog. That has to be the best R&D to life-time sales ratio ever.

You’re making a lot of good points. But I‘m still wondering why most P6/OB6/P5 owners still hold them to such high regards a decade later, while we hear almost nothing about Trigon. Maybe a combination of what you mentioned: there weren’t many vintage sounding analog polys around when these were released, so a lot of people got them and made music with them. Now they’re so used to their sound and have an attachment / nostalgia for them that they’re still raving about them. While the Trigon was released into this era where there’s an abundance of good sounding analog synths, so fewer people bought them and more probably sold it later on to get the newest shit (like a Muse).
