just out of interest:
has anybody a idea if there are noticable differences in Latency, when sequenzing external synths from a elektron box, in this cae the DT beeing the sequenzer.
the question is: VST Synth vs. Hardware like lets say a Blofeld .
If your sequencing a vst your at the mercy of the speed of the actual audio interface and its sample rate + buffer size. If your monitoring you hardware synth through the audio interface and DAW, it will experience this latency as well so would be pretty similar…
If your monitoring the hardware synth through a mixer then it will have lower latency as it does not travel through the interface and computer…
You can minimize the difference by setting high sample rate and low buffer size, at the expense of cpu…
Thunderbolt interfaces are much lower latency…
Personnally I’ve never seen a hardware synth that had noticeable inherent latency…
I’ve sequenced a number of pieces of hardware from my dt and have not experienced and noticable latency in the midi. All 8 channels sequencing a different synth
oh, i even had this audio thing not in mind. true, has to be added. at least one way.
my original thought was if the midi signal going into the box would have more delay then sending same midi to hardware ?
i was probably not clear enough.
But now, thinking about it closer, it might be similar, ITB vs. Hardware synth, as midi itself is not the fastest and on the other side not that huge of a data stream.
Thats a good idea to send audio also thru the Box. Though things get complicated then.
my setup is still not totally ready to do this task. at least was i able to send midi to the box now.
Yeah, the in the box audio processing lag compared to monitoring hardware through a mixer while using both at the same time is a much bigger source of latency and things not being in sync than any midi latency difference…
