Send a VOL=0 plock via MIDI

Hello, is there a way to achieve a VOL=0 plock-like effect via MIDI? Sending a note-off or a note-on with velocity=0 does not seem to have the same effect. Presently I’m sending a cc with VOL=0, and then resetting VOL=100 before each note-on, but I was wondering if there’s a more efficient or clever way.

If you have a track to spare you can just set up a choke group with a silent track so that sending it a midi note immediately cuts the sound.

since X.04 mute on/offs send CC messages so could use these with an NFX EV machine acting as a thru for remote control. or just switch the neighbour position between 0-127 but this assumes you have a non sound generating track on the far neighbour.
