Select bank via MIDI

Hi!

Is there a way I can select bank via MIDI somehow? I can change the pattern via simple program change messages to the auto channel. I’d guess that if I send a bank select CC to the auto channel, the bank would be selected, but it does not react (tried the msb (0) and lsb (32) CCs)
Thanks!

(ps: I wonder why is this and the pattern change undocumented?)

Moreover, it seems that it does change bank when I send a program change. It changes to bank 9, no matter what pattern I select. Why bank nine is beyond me.

Any help…?

Actually, my last post is untrue.
What actually happens, is that if I send cc0 with value 0, then bank 1 will be selected, if I send cc0 with anything else, bank 9 will be selected. cc32 seems to be irrelevant.

Ah, finally I’ve figured out. I leave this here for future reference so that others will not waste their time with this:

From the MIDI perspective, there are only 2 banks in octatrack, selected with cc0. Each bank has 128 programs. These correspond to 8 banks of 16 patterns. 8x16 = 128.
So for example program change 27 selects bank 2 pattern 11, or if there was a previous bank select for bank1, it will be bank 10 pattern 11.

The confusion arises because the word ‘bank’ means two related but different things.

Thanks for this, selecting banks via midi is going to make my live shows much more elegant when I’m using the OT for backing tracks in the band while holding a guitar. Appreciate it.

thanks for posting that

You’re welcome!
