Second A4 or Monomachine

Let’s forget about the new machine for the purpose of this question. I’m playing around with the idea of adding a third Elektron box to my OT and A4.

I love the A4, it’s sequencer and sound. I often find myself wishing I had more tracks available. The Elektron method just clicks with me, so I’m looking to expand. I also have a Nord Lead 3, Minibrute, Virus TI and Sub Phatty.

I find myself wanting to grab a second A4, but debating getting a Monomachine to add some more variety to the setup.

What would a Monomachine bring to the table that I can’t already do with the OT, A4 and other synths?

Lots of threads about this, and I’m sure you’ll get lots of opinions here. But imho the single crucial question to ask yourself is: Do I like the sounds I’ve heard from MnM performances?

I find the MnM a very flexible piece of gear that can be configured to do a lot of things – its multiple synth methods and routing possibilities will keep me occupied for years. But if I didn’t like its idiosyncratic voice, it wouldn’t matter.

Again imho: Seek out recordings by experienced owners and trust your ears.

I don’t have a MnM & I love my A4, but it’s a no-brainer to get a MnM imho - you know it’s gonna be good, you know it’s gonna be different, you know the UI will be less up to date, but surely the variety of sounds available should make this an easy choice, it’ll be cheaper to pick up

get some cv synth modules if you want to extend your palette

Thanks for the input. I have read many threads and listened to many clips. Most discussions tend to be more about A4 vs MnM.

I’ve read and listened to enough to know the differences in sound and design, but none of that really helps me decide between adding a second A4 or a MnM.

I’m torn because I like the sound of both. I’ve research to the point of being more confused than when I started. But I do think I’m leaning MnM at the moment, but this could change depending on what the new machine is.

I’ve been thinking many tims about swapping my ol’ MnM for a second A4, sinply because I wish the A4 had more voices. I love the MnM for the FM and pad/chord abilities, as well as the chaining of effect machines for some icy, sparkling dub sounds. But in the end they complement eachother nicely, and for most purposes having two A4’s would be a bit crazy, especially when it comes to studio recording.

Monomachine all the way. I just love the MnM FM thing. Second hand units are actually a real bargain. Just my 2 cents tho. cheers

Yeah, I agree that the 2nd hand MnM prices are incredible, a friend of mine got himself a mk1 for $450, which is more than $1000 LESS than I paid for my new mk2…
