SE-02 or Opsix for Bass

I’m looking for a dedicated synthesizer for basslines.

The SE-02 is at the top of my list but the Opsix (and pro-1) looks very intriguing.

If you could pick one, what would it be and why?

Needs to be desktop with no keybeds.
Ability to save presets and midi cc control is needed as this will be driven externally.
More knobs per function is a BIG selling point.

Will be paired with a peak.

I liked the SE-02 quite a bit…and I have big fingers and the small factor didnt bother me too much.

If it’s only for the bass, Minitaur makes more sense than Opsix…

Opsix is good for pretty much everything, would pair nicely with the Peak in my opinion.

Depends a bit if you want fm or analog. I like the OPsix for bass, but I like fm basses in general. Maybe check out the plugin (demo)?

I created several bass presets on OpSix with almost wavetablish feel (roaring in miss/lower mids), as the FM synth it certainly capable for bass sounds. However it’s not really the main specialization and I suspect classic FM synths are much better due to their grittiness and lower resolution (it’s important aspect).

You can test the VST demo, but an analog synth is much better option. Behringer swarm of desktop synths sounds quite beefy on demos (pro-1, ms-20, etc). SE02 is ok, but not the best desktop

In a competition involving bass, Studio Electronics always wins if involved imo.

FM bass is better than analogue for low sub range when it comes to mixing, you’ll run into less issues with phase etc.
Synths such as the Minitaur sound great in isolation but can cause a bit of a head ache with mix down.
You could use the OPsix for Sub bass, peak for mid range basses and another engine from the OPsix for top end stuff, if you are multi tracking that is. Then again if you are using a DAW just save a tonne of money and use Ableton operator and the Peak lol.

FM is my go to for deep bass.

I currently pair an opsix with a Peak and it’s great. but i haven’t yet produced a top ten single.

i guess it depends on the type of bass you want to make.

Like others stated FM is better for deep bases. but you might get more character out of the SE-02.
