Screen film on new gear

Do you remove the screen protector film on a new piece of gear:
  • As soon as I get it out of the box
  • As soon as I know I’m not returning it
  • Whenever I feel like it, you know?
  • Only if damage or other circumstances require me to
  • I would never peel one, no matter what happens

Just curious what everyone’s take is! I’ve seen a lot of Elektron gear up for sale recently with screen film intact.

I don’t peel and tell, it is an intimate moment between me and my gear

I bought more gear than I can ever learn, but only returned one item, because it was broken.

I peel right away, it’s nothing I celebrate. Those are things in the end.

I buy peeled screen protectors on ebay, they make for a nice aperitif. You have to squeeze the juice while they’re still freshly peeled though, or the top note gets squashed and the bouquet loses it’s floral aroma.

I peel right away, screen is more sharp and clean, don’t care for resale value because all gear I buy stays with me forever.

I was actually tempted to take the protector off of my MPC today. What sort of a monster are you folks making me into?

The reality is that a screen protector won’t add value to gear anyway. You’re hampering your experience of the device for some theoretical future reason that is mostly fantasy.

Feeling that particular urge in the tram today.

…i love to peel things off…

all of the above

I take it off immediately, then hang it off a spike in front of my house with all the others, all medieval and shit.

Because I wouldn’t want people thinking I’m the sort of coward who leaves the film on the screen of his music gear.

Just peel it off, for fuck’s sake.

I try not to judge people but folks who cling to screen protectors on devices like they are human screen protectors themselves—aren’t to be trusted.

I imagine these type of people have refrigerators full of plates with Saran wrapped leftovers dating back a few holidays. No intention to ever eat any of the shit.

They just…must……keep….it….ALL…wrapped.

I saw a kid riding his bike with a piece of placenta wrapped around his head like a durag and immediately knew his parents were one of these wierd sorts who have a studio full of gear still wearing original screen protectors. :face_vomiting:

I like The softening or blurring effect.

Looks more analog and vintage.

I prefer to buy used Gear that had the screen protector film on it. It’s deal breaker when choosing between 2 items.

I don’t peel it on Elektrons because of the softening blurring effect. I don’t like sharp edges, I prefer rounded curvy organic pixels.

If screen film has any visible imperfections I peel it off right away. I cannot stand imperfections or distractions while menu diving.

Anyone who doesn’t peel those things off immediately is a sicko. A sicko!

Might not be applicable to synth. But here goes.
Over the years, I bought (way too) many guitars. And the consensus was always the same : don’t leave the protective films on for too long. You never know what kind of chemicals might react to sun and other environmental parameters.
So as soon as I know I’m gonna keep it, I get rid of it.
And it is of note that peeling it off is never an issue when returning/selling said gear. For me, at least.

If you take it off, this kinda stuff just ends up in a landfill somewhere and with the ensuing climate crisis, despotic leaders, and people’s thirst for fancy packaging, it isn’t doing anything to combat climate change.
