Sci-fi , cyber punk , GTA style ads, Humor, Dystopia samples for radio show

Hey everyone

I am currently in the process of recording a monthly radio show/podcast. I have hundreds of records (house/electro/techno/trance/classics etc) and wanted to start recording them all as a way of cataloging them online. Normally I would record a DJ mix and just upload it but unfortunately one of my decks needs a service so I have been looking at recording a different way. I have been looking at recording the show as you would hear on regular radio shows, letting the song play out rather than mixing it. This brings me to what to do when one song ends and another starts.

At the moment I am recording each record in full and also recording some vocal samples I have found in my collection to use as the bridge between songs. So far I have been using funny samples like beatfoot 21 gram (example here BEATFOOT - Beatfoot Vinyl at Juno Records.)

I am on looking for sample suggestions that are sci-fi related or maybe black mirror/ twilight zone with a modern twist or dystopian vibe. I have also taught about using some of the radio commercials from GTA but i know that has been done before

Different language could be coo as well, if short enough. Like short cut of a movie in another language…

Why not record yourself introducing the next track as if you were the host of a pirate radio show in some futurist (dystopian) megacity ?

Check out some Joe Meek and Raymond Scott recordings. I think this is what you are looking for.

great idea I do plan to do some talking. That could be fun to get into character. I also used to love the scenes in the film warrior where the DJ is updating the streets on the gang’s movements which I also have on record and could be also be used. Thanks very interesting :slight_smile:

Maybe try some sci-if audiobooks? Many options through most modern libraries.

You should capture some of the pidgin language from the original Bladerunner movie, like when Deckard is ordering noodles in the beginning.

Drambos dev has an AU radio app for ipad/iphone and it has this online radio station on it that’s a sci fi horror channel. It’s got loads of retro radio sci fi sounds and weird stories and stuff. You should definitely check that out

I’ve just listened to the first 30 minutes and like what I hear so far! Nice bouncy, moody grooves, and the radio collage is fun (the life data ad gave me a chuckle).

My only complaint is that it takes too long to get to the mix. You’ve got a minutes of the radio bits, then a minute windup leading to… another almost 2 minutes of the “Heartbeat/Ticktock” monologue before the mix really starts going. Not sure where exactly I’d cut, but 4 minutes feels too long to me
