I’m here for the stories as much as the tunes (which are rad). Hope both keep coming!
thank you! glad to hear my journal entries have some appeal, this train is gonna keep on trucking along
got a tune for the holiday. my sonicware liven evoke did not show up in time to play with today but it should be here tomorrow, i’ll bust out some tunes with it for sure.
this one was made at Magnolia Viewpoint, i used to hang out here as a teenager, there was access to a really cool secret hideout built on the remains of a house that dropped down the hill in a landslide near here. i think the route has since been blocked off tho. i saw an old childhood friend while i was there too, probably one of the most pleasant interactions ive had with him as an adult.
made this tune solo on the p6. i really like this one, maybe my favorite ive gotten out of the p6. i chopped up a The Kount sample and just went to town.
got another one in here. went home after the first one, took a nap on the floor and went back out to Bryant Playground Park. this spot was alright, i liked the bench that i sat at. there were some cool dandelions popping out everywhere. i made this tune in the ep133 with a random chord sample from the library. i had fun making this
brought the evoke out to some parks to give it a run. its fun! havent gotten too deep but i feel like i got a decent grasp on it without cracking the manual yet.
first i went to Roanoke Park over on capitol hill. i used to go to this park more when i was a teenager, its a chill little nook of a park. i learned some nice moving meditation practices here too, ive got some good memories here. one of the city gardeners came up to me while i was making this tune and asked if i was painting, i guess the ep133 looks like an easel or a pallet or something. i sampled chords and tones off the liven evoke. this was just straight presets.
next i went to Heritage Park in Kirkland. this spot was close to the water and pretty nice. there was a volleyball tournament going on on the grass, people were spiking and bumping left and right. i posted up in the sun on a bench and made this tune with the evoke and the p6. i sampled some chords from the evoke’s chord mode, i need to learn more about this mode because some of the chords sound super dope. i wish this one ended up better
next i went to North Rose Hill Woodlands Park. this was a paved trail system with some cool benches in the shadows. i made a cinematic solo evoke tune and recorded it into the m8. i need to figure out how to save patterns on the evoke because when i’ve done what appears to be the save combo it just erases the pattern. not sure what im doing wrong there, gonna open up the manual.
finally i went to Mercerdale Park on Mercer Island. i like that this park had a bunch of workout equipment for people to use. reminded me of the parks in taiwan, its a good idea. gives adults some stuff to play with too. i was going to make a tune with the evoke and p6 and sync them up but i forgot that i need a TS cable for that. so i ended up making some loops on the evoke and sampling them into the p6 at 14k or something like that. then i arranged it a bit and ran it through the 404 at home.
im sleepy so im just copying what i posted in the evoke thread
NE 31st St Public Shore
made a couple more this morning. im having lots of fun with it, its a keeper. this first one was done along with the p6, i had them midi synced and it worked pretty flawlessly. as easy as using two aira compacts together. i kinda messed up some levels here but the back half is pretty.
Fairview Park
this one is with the ep133, i sequenced an evoke loop from the ep133 and sampled that in, then sampled in some chords and other tones.
cloudy day today but i made it out to Ravenna-Eckstein Park. had a short day at work so i could attend my orientation meeting for my masters program. classes start this week! not totally sure what the actual work load is going to be like, im hoping ill still be able to get out to parks when its sunny. so far it looks like its not gonna be that hard tbh, like one of the major projects in a class is making a lesson plan, which ive done a ton of times. im excited to get this process rolling tho im sure its gonna fly by.
Ravenna-Eckstein Park is cool! the playground is a dope old wooden play structure and there is a metal rock climbing wall that looks well-worn. its tucked away behind the community center, feels private. theres a beauty of a p-patch there too. nice park, would hang out there again.
this tune was made with the evoke and p6. i made an 8 bar loop on the evoke and then chopped that up on the p6.
this was the loop, i recorded it through the 404 with some cassette/303 goodness
i like this comment someone posted on one of the tracks from the other day
i made it to 150 parks and 150 tunes. i think this is a good place to pause the project for now. i started my masters program last week and while it is cool and exciting to be back in school, its pretty clear to me that i am not going to have the mental capacity to go as ham as i have been going on the parks. and i gotta not spend so much money on gas and gotta spend less time on driving. which is too bad, i love driving. im still gonna have my zoo project but im gonna let that one be far more chill in terms of pace.
both of these last tunes suck lol, but thats all a part of the project aint it.
i went to Sacajawea Playground Park the other day. this was a chill spot, i mostly hung out in the field by the entrance. this was a nice little neighborhood walk kinda park. i think i sampled sounds off the evoke onto the ep133, not positive about that tho.
next i went to Thomas C. Wales Park in Queen Anne. this park is really weird and cool, i used pics from here for both tunes becaues i forgot to snap a pic at the previous spot. theres a bunch of rocks in metal cages here, with a spiraling path to climb. it was an artist concept based on the fact that a rock quarry used to be in that location so long time ago. fun park.
i made this on the m8 with samples off the evoke. this was a really lazy track, this was a part of what made me realize that i was running out of energy for this project in general. real throwaway track right here, big man 150. i might have to make one more soon just to cap it off with a tune i like.
Good luck with school and thanks for all the awesome music and write ups!
Congrats on the completion of the project! Super fun to hear and follow along. One of my favorite threads round these parts.
Good luck on the masters program and maybe some day I’ll run into you in a park with your M8 anyways.
I’ve enjoyed all these posts and tracks (and especially the recent Ravenna-Eckstein one as we spent a lot of time with the kids there when we first moved up here in 2012). We’re just up the hill now in Bryant and don’t make it over there much as the kids are in HS now.
@Kegeratorz @maymind_trax thanks yall, im glad you enjoyed coming along for the ride! im sure ill squeeze more in here eventually
@sasquatchfuzz awesome! love the connection, when i visited Ravenna-Eckstein i started having some pretty vivid memories of playing there as a child. im not sure if they are real memories but that park started stirring them up. Bryant is a nice zone, the Wedgewood/Bryant/Maple Leaf neighborhoods always struck me as spots i’d enjoy living in. maybe this masters program will boost my earning enough to make homeownership (or bare minimum rental house) attainable
since i didnt like the last two tunes that much i decided to return to where it all began at Carkeek Park to make this tune. it was great, three dudes were jazzing out right by the lookout, was great background music to hear through my headphones when i paused my playback.
i like this track way more than the last two, sampled some sounds off the evoke onto the p6 and then did a combo p6/s1 tune. this feels way better as a final track. thanks for coming along homies
finally found a couple days of open free time, so i went out to a park! i went to Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo, it was a cool spot. gotta say, $1.50/30min for parking is crazy, but at least local residents get free parking. lots of nice big drift wood here, and a great view of the water. saw a super old fishing boat which was cool. i think i must look like i could use saving because an old woman walked up to me and put this little jesus figure on the bench next to me. it was a cute little gesture, but im constantly amazed by catholic missionary type behavior like this. happens to me more than once a year.
made this track with the ep133 and the sonicware evoke. sampled some sounds and went to town.
unofficial park tune entry here.
i visited a nudist club on a lake this past weekend and it rules so hard. sunbathed by the lake, went on a hike to a cool waterfall, kicked it in the sauna. all of their lake stuff is available for everyone so i want to do some paddleboarding there. im planning on going back for labor day weekend to camp and party. its a family friendly nudist club so it seems like a chiller nudist crowd and not as wild and wacky as the nude beach population at one of the beaches here in Seattle. the people were so nice and welcoming, im hoping to really become a part of this community.
made this tune was nude by the lake in a comfy chair. watched frogs skip across the lily pads and saw a snake hunting for a frog snack. made it on the p6/s1 combo. im probably gonna make a ton of tunes at this spot, they have rentable cabins that are cozy and affordable, i kinda want to do an artist retreat week there at some point.
its the end of the quarter and most of my final projects are done, just got a couple things to cram in tomorrow. ive been getting great grades so far, almost wondering if its too easy of a program, but its only the first quarter! nice to have some more free time.
today was a nice enough day to hit some parks so i brought my diy modular rack, the p-6, the evoke, and the ep133 out to play.
first i went to Terrace Ridge Park. this is a cool spot out in Mountlake Terrace. i wish this park was closer to my apartment because i’d be chilling there all the time. nice rolling hills with cool trees and a old little playground. i sampled a bunch of sounds off the modular rack into the p-6 for this one.
next i went to Scriber Lake Park. i was getting kinda tired so i only peeked into the trails before i found a nice bench to hang out on. this park was super developed, it felt like walking through the trails in the zoo. could do with a bit more exploration, we’ll see if i make it back. i made this tune with sounds from the evoke running through some effects on the p-6 and sampled into the ep133. made the rest of the tune on the ep133.
bringing this thread back to life for my vacation in Kauai. walked over to Poipu Beach to check out the sea turtles, there were like six or seven of them hanging out on the beach. i found a chill spot in the park by the beach to post up with the op-xy near a group of people playing christmas songs on uke’s. tried to take some inspo from the turtles for this tune
This is awesome! Super chill! Hope you’re enjoying the vacation!
thanks dude! its the first of hopefully many, im here for a hot minute with six family members so i gotta take some park time alone when i can. but lovin the island energy
walked over to a park near the house we’re renting but there wasn’t really any great spots to sit. there were lots of cool stone walls but they were special and we arent supposed to disturb them. so i walked around, absorbed the scene and went down the block to a bench right on the water looking over a poppin snorkeling spot. made this tune on the opxy while drinking too many celsius’. the picture is from weimea from earlier in the day.
