Proud owner of an MKII octatrack for a couple of months here. Recently, I’ve been trying out this scene modulation trick at 15:41, absolutely fascinating what can be done with this machine. In detail I’ve been using this trick to jump between Scene A 1-8 or Scene B 9-16, both sides of the machine playing different themes, around 2 different tonalities. It’s a great way to have very different textures circling around, that stay in tune depending on where the crossfader is located.
I’ve managed to setup MIDI track 1 on channel 1, CC1=55 and CC2=56, allowing me to modulate both scenes at the same time using MIDI LFO 1 and 2, and choosing which side I want with the crossfader. However this means I’m left with LFO 3 as another source of modulation only.
So I’ve been trying to use MIDI track 2 to take care of Scene B and this is where my lack of MIDI knowledge stops me. I cannot figure out how to setup track 2 for this application. I’ve been trying to use MIDI channel 2 - mirroring how you’re supposed to set up audio tracks with their associated recording buffers - instead of channel 1, setting up CC1=56, or CC2=56… it just won’t work.
Hi sezare56, thank you for your reply. That’s what I figured, but I still cannot make MIDI track 2 modulate scene B. I have tried to assign CC1 or CC2 to CC56, disabling the latter on the first MIDI track, but it just won’t work.
Is it one of those MIDI things the octatrack cannot handle ?
Right now MIDI track 1 is set to channel 1, CC1 to CC55, activated, works fine. MIDI track 2 is set to channel 1, CC1 to CC56, activated, not working. Tried using CC2 instead, tried using channel 2, does not work.
What do you mean by having “an audio track set to channel 1” though ?
To control scenes / crossfader with midi tracks, you need to have at least 1 midi channel activated for audio tracks in MIDI > CHANNELS page, or AUTO CHANNEL.
