First post here - hoping you can all help with something that should be simple but I can’t seem to find it!
Ok, so I make a 16/16 pattern then want to expand it to say 32 or 64 -no problem with that.
The issue then is - I want to edit the 2nd bar only - can I do a focus on that 2nd bar so it just repeats while I edit it??
At the moment I have to cycle through all 4 bars of my 64/64 pattern just to hear my edit in the 2nd bar - it’s very frustrating!
Obviously I’m missing something - surely this is possible right?
My Tempest dos this easily in grid mode - I just turn on looping for the current bar - easy.
Cheers!

Nope, not possible.
You’d have to use another sequencer that could do that and record it to the mnm.

Easiest way for me is to use song mode and set it to play the range that you want to edit. Steps 17-32, 33-48 etc.
Ahh, thanks. The song mode workaround is a great suggestion!
I suppose this is the same issue on the MD and OT??
Seems like such an obvious option to want/ have - guess ill head over to the user requests thread then…

They’re all like this…it would be such an improvement to loop a chosen bar/page, but at least song mode is a workaround, even if a bit awkward.
Ok, the song mode workaround works but it is definitely a pain to have to do it that way.
I can’t believe that there is not a simple [Shift Scale] command to implement in pattern mode or something.
Surely this must have come up a million times before??
Totally love the machine but that one thing would make such a difference to the work flow.
Thanks for the help though guys.

That’s a great suggestion. I use song mode a lot to finish arrange my tracks, but never thought to use it in the composition phase.
Another old-school workaround is to shift your pattern with Func+<>.
You can also use copy page and paste it on an other pattern, work it and then copy back in place.

Brilliant. Why have I never thought of this?

Can you shift, then limit to 1 bar, and then go back to x bars, and shift back without losing anything? Seems like another good way (but still a PITA).

Yup. But I am beginning to prefer Elena’s approach.

Yes, I just saw that one: seems the simplest! Ladies & gents, we have a winner!

That’s how I work. Least amount of steps to.
I missed that Copy Page option.
Need to read the manual more closely I guess.
It’s a good option too.
Cheers!
But hang on … Doesn’t copy page only copy the selected track ?
Really I want all 6 tracks of that page copied to a new pattern for editing in detail.
Also my undo page doesn’t work for that mode (but does for others)- I’m on os 1.21 , is it time to upgrade?

Nope…
options are:
Scale setup + Copy: Copy current page trigs on current track, nothing more
Rec lit: Func + Copy: Copy current track and all its trigs
Rec unlit: Func + Copy: Copy current pattern and all that comes with it.
Edit: Oops, I just noticed this is a Monomachine thread, not an Octatrack one. So there might be more possibilities I’m not aware of, but these, at least?

Yup, that’s all there is.
Here comes the question: Is the FUNC+<> trick MIDI assignable (i.e. externally controlled by a controller)?
It is a great trick for live performances.

Good question. A quick flip to the back of the manual should tell ya.
